Talk about true Caribbean food! I cannot express enough just how authentic and delicious this restaurant is. Peter is a true master of his craft. From the moment you enter the restaurant you are transported to a Caribbean atmosphere with music, video imagery, and the scents of truly traditional food. I have been to almost every Caribbean place in Jacksonville and none holds a candle to Irie Diner. The jerk chicken was the best I’ve ever had and I’m a regular Caribbean traveler. Tender, juicy, and full of jerk flavor. It’s so well cooked that there was a delicious jerk gravy left at the bottom of the dish that I couldn’t help but lick up. The plantains were literally the best I’ve had in town. No one gets a crispy exterior with the soft delicious center quite right but Irie does. The oxtails are hands down the best flavored and most tender in town. Oh and let’s not forget the cabbage!!!! If you live on another side of town it is well worth the drive and right off 295.
