This is definitely not my Mama's kitchen. They are telling on themselves with the title of the business. We ordered two dinner plates.Plate 1- Fried catfish w/yams Mac cheese.Plate 2- Fried Chicken w/rice/gravy yams. The fried catfish was under cooked, not seasoned at all and tasted of OLD frying oil. And the Mac and cheese! How can you mess up Mac and cheese? Had a great value texture to the noodles and smelled spoiled and tasted like they put sour cream in there, spoiled sour cream. The yams were bland. The fried chicken was under cooked and tasted like old fish frying oil. I think they fry all of their meats in the same old frying oil. The taste of the food definitely had me thinking they do not change their oil often. The rice was slightly under cooked and the gravy was not seasoned well. We got the fried shrimp a la carte and they were cooked just fine but the seasoning was way off. We went there before we went to a concert in Los Angeles that evening and this was a BIG disappointment to our taste buds and stomach. I do not know how this place is still in business. You can not see into the kitchen. There are some big, long and wide black curtains or bed sheets covering the kitchen. For a Friday afternoon this place should have been packed, If we would have dined in we would have been the only customers in the restaurant. Save your time and money, this place is not ready for the big league when it comes to Soul Food. The people leaving five stars or four stars must be friends relatives are people that just don't know what soul food should taste like.Parking: Trust me! You will not have a problem finding parking. The only cars in the parking lot are the cars that belong to the employees and the other businesses customers.
I had high hopes after reading all of the amazing yelp reviews, however it was a miss for me. The food IS fresh- we placed our order and it took 40 minutes to make. Unfortunately, all 3 of us thought our food was salty salty salty. : I am not one to waste food, but my fried chicken and collard greens were not even worth the sodium overload. The fried catfish was equally disappointing. The shrimp po-boy is the only meal that was given a thumbs up.
The food was not that great. The chicken was super bland and so was the greens. The Mac n cheese tasted like it was loaded with seasoning salt. The Arnold Palmer drink was horrible. It tasted like it went bad or had ginger it. The only thing that tasted good was the peach cobbler. The customer service was okay , but they only had one person taking orders and the line was long. They were having some type of even there for what looked like members of a church. It took a very long time to get our food. I would only go back for peach cobbler.
Ok so we reside in Eastvale, but have not found a worthy soul food place in the area... Enter NYMK!!!! This place is literally 15 mins outside of our home city and well worth the short drive.... we have eaten here several times and will continue to come back and support....The food is always well worth the wait and the friendliness of the young lady at the front counter is always welcoming. If you are in the Ontario area Thursday- Sunday from 12 -7pm and want food that touches your spirit. Stop by, hell you might catch us in there one day..
