Sgt. Peffer's Italian Cafe Millard

I have been a loyal fan of Sgt. Peffer's for more than 15 years. When I first started working after college, we always used to get catering from the Saddle Creek location. I have also dined in and ordered takeout from the Millard location. While the Millard location is starting to show its age, they were still able to quickly prepare my takeout order on a busy Friday night, with the food arriving hot at home in just 20 minutes. My favorite dish is the cheese tortellini with alfredo sauce, but I have also enjoyed their pizzas, various pastas, and sandwiches over the years. Overall, the food and customer service are consistently great at Sgt. Peffer's!

I decided to give this restaurant another chance tonight, but unfortunately, I was still unimpressed. Last time I ordered the chicken parmigiana and was disappointed to find that the chicken was not breaded, there was no melted cheese on top, and the red sauce was very acidic and lacked seasoning. Tonight, I opted for the lasagna and specifically asked the employee if they used full sheets of lasagna in the dish, to which she confirmed they did. However, when the dish arrived, it was devoid of meat and cheese, with only broken pieces of lasagna drowned in the same unseasoned sauce. The lasagna should be layered, not thrown together in a bowl of sauce. There was also no mozzarella on top as promised. Additionally, the warm roll served with the soup or salad was not up to par – it was microwaved and had a tough crust. Overall, I will not be returning to this restaurant. I suggest seeking recipe inspiration from Romas in Bellevue, where the food is exceptional and the chicken parmigiana is top-notch.

I ordered the large combination pizza for delivery and was somewhat disappointed. The pizza seemed to be just average in taste, with the overpowering flavor of onions. The base of the pizza was also a bit soggy, which may have been due to the delivery process.

We got our food to go and we both were seriously disappointed. My wife's lasagna was totally smothered in tomato sauce, no cheese on top and very, very little cheese in the middle very tasteless. My spaghetti with meat balls was totally tasteless also, the sauce was very thick and dried out and the meatballs were more tasteless than the sauce. I think the meatballs may have been reheated way too many times. The honey rolls were very stale also.

Ordered a few pizzas as a starter to an early Thanksgiving gathering Ground beef and the white cheese speciality. The white cheese blew everyone away. It was gone before everyone even had a chance to sit down after grabbing a slice! Placed the order earlier in the day for pick up at a certain time, and it was ready at the right time, piping hot.
