Superbly refreshing, authentic and uniquely personal-styled South of the border cuisine. Best guacamole salad side dish for ten bucks ever. House made chips. Full bar, happy hour, at least 5 salsas make this delightful place worth the drive. Get off the beaten track of boring food... You won't find these flavors anywhere else. Bravo to the owner, chef and staff. I'm coming back!
I am sorry to issue a 3 star review, but I have to chronicle my visit; I am CERTAIN this restaurant can do better. Positives, it is clean, has a good atmosphere. Very good, but not great menu and food execution. Negatives, they are priced a tad high for times they are running well, and about double the value for our visit. I have had slower food delivery before, but this was way to slow for Mexican, not to mention at lunch on a weekday, sometimes people need to get back to work. Service was terrible. I do not intend to come back.
I struggled with this review. I searched best Mexican Food in Olympia and Don Juans was suggested. The reviews were great so we gave it a chance. The price was high for what you received. The restaurant was busy but the servers didn't check in enough. The home made chips were so hard you could chip a tooth. Salsa was good though. Our food arrived before we got any silverware. It felt like it was a for locals only type of place. Maybe thats why we were an afterthought. The food was okay, not great. My daughter ordered a ceaser salad that had so much lemon juice in the dressing it wasn't edible. My husband was surprised his burrito was just meat in a tortilla covered in sauce. Authentic or not, it's just wasn't a great experience.
Don Juan is an exceptional Mexican restaurant. The system is clean, cool and well spaced. You have options for restaurant and bar view. Sitting includes both tables and stands that have enough space around them that you are not against the neighboring table. The setup also had sound paneling on the ceiling that helps and makes the noise level and makes it so that you can hear the people on your table well and easily hear the background music giving you the illusion of privacy. On a wall is a glass covered section where you can even observe how the chefs we make the food. When we sit at our table, we get homemade chips and salsa, water and menus. The menu had many marked options for gluten-free foods as well as marked when things were cooked in peanut oil. When I came to order, I ordered steak nachos while my husband ordered a chicken wet burrito. For his wet burrito they have a range of different sauces and they offered a sampling of them so that he could try them. expensive for quantity and quality. Both dishes were well seasoned and tasty.
