The setting is quite rustic and basic with a red neck ambiance that was charming. Service is a bit odd. You order drinks from a waitress and pay her. For food you line up at the kitchen, hang around until it is ready, and then take your food back to your table. The BBQ was better than I expected for the remote location. While they said sides were gluten free my wife did have problems with the food.
I was so excited to finally be going to eat some BBQ again! Walked in and the place was casual and fabulous in a 'sit right down and serve yourself' kinda way. Great indoor and outdoor spaces. Awesome........or so I thought.....until the first bite. The ribs...oh no! The cluck....pieces of bone in the sandwich...what? The side of potatoes/bacon/cheese...what gives here? All of the food was ROOM temperature . I knew better than to continue eating........I cannot give this place the lowest rating because the joint looks so cool.....and the drink server was nice. Might be great for drinks......but EAT at OWN RISK. Yikes!
The barbecue was just ok. Side dishes were dry except for the baked beans which were very tasty. Unfortunately I became quite ill after eating at this place. Not sure if it was the food here or not.
Go for the drive and the ambiance, seating inside or outside with great views of the mountains. Walk in and stand in line to order, leave your name and when your food is ready they call you to pick it up. We saw some waitresses for alcohol orders but they didn't come to our table luckily we had ordered water with our meals. The food was ok but we have had better BBQ around Calgary. I had the brisket with mac n' cheese and my husband had the ribs. Both were good but they didn't taste fresh, maybe microwaved?I might go again for the drive? But the food would be a second reason to go.
We went here yesterday for a social club meeting. My expectations were low because of the poor reviews I read here - but WOW, the food was delicious! We shared the "Pit Platter" between 3 people and we all had leftovers to take home. Dining outside was awesome, watching the sun set over the hills - such beautiful views! I loved the atmosphere of the whole place, it really feels like you're out for a country cookout. Well done!My husband needs gluten free and couldn't eat the cornbread in the Pit platter, but he was able to eat everything else on that dish.I only give it 4 stars because I would have liked the option to order food while placing orders for drinks from the waitress. We had a long line to wait to order food at the counter. That's not a deal breaker however and I will absolutely return again.
