I ordered takeout of a shrimp chimichanga platter and had gross beef littered in my meal. Beans and rice were dry and old. Chimi tasted okay excluding the beef. Portions for guacamole and sour cream were tiny and the container I bought of extra guacamole was the size of a small sauce container and not worth the price. This business needs to be more conscientious about including foods that were not ordered, some people have dietary restrictions/allergens/food sensitivities. Not equivalent to Cali food lol.
Food was pretty good, but the service was not great. We waiting a good 10 minutes for chips, another 5 for salsa, then another 10 got drink orders and another 5 for food orders. Then we had to ask for silverware and wait a few minutes. Saw several tables get up and go ask for silverware as well. And they really were not that busy.
My son and his fiancee took the family out to dinner because they were going to be gone for a while. I had the large platter of chile verde wet burrito with an enchilada, tostada, rice and beans. Also ordered a ground beef taco. Helen ordered the chile rellano platter and Evan had the menudo which was fantastic. My wet burrito did not have a great cheese sauce as I was anticipating, it tasted like a dull enchilada sauce instead. The taco, had a manufactured shell, and the beef had no flavor. The tostada, same. Manufactured shell. The rellano perfect. I think if you are going to be authentic, you should not cut corners and put out Manufactured shells. The salsa, for the chips and salsa, tasted like Pace picante with jalapeño and cilantro added. They need to up their game. Fresh needs to be a priority and maybe hire a professional tortilla maker that makes Fresh on the spot. I wouldn't mind going in there and teaching them how to make hot sauces and Pico salsas, that are Fresh. The difference between California authentic Mexican food, and Utah Mexican food, needs to learn to make it better. Helen and I would love to teach the cooks a few things.
I'm not really sure why this restaurant is so highly rated. The food is really bland. The comp chips and salsa were probably the only food worth returning for. Even though the salsa was way too spicy for my preference, everyone else at my table liked it. The service also left much to be desired.. my waitress even forgot to take my order and I had to chase her down; we saw her so infrequently, I wouldn't have gotten my food otherwise. It is a pretty small restaurant so I'm not sure why we hardly saw the waitress. Needless to say, I won't be returning and neither will the rest of our party from that night.
