Tomas Inn - OAXACA DE JUÁREZ

We wandered past Tomas Inn one evening and decided to pop our head in for a drink. Almost entirely frequented by locals it felt welcome and inviting with lots of atmosphere. The decor is pretty naff but that's part of the charm. They have a...small, simple and cheap menu. The food is pretty good especially their baked potato served with melted cheese and sour cream. All the standard booze is on offer but they have a few ok mezcals that are worth a try. A Tobala for just MXN$70 which is as cheap as you'll find in Oaxaca. What sells the place for me is the atmosphere. Incredibly friendly staff and locals letting their hair down. It can be loud and rowdy but it's always friendly. We watched the rather boring Super Bowl here and they laid on a complimentary spread the likes of which I've never seen before for all the patrons. Between the loud Mexican music and the dull game itself it was an entertaining way to kill a few hours. Tomas Inn is well worth a look if walking by or in the area.

Unlike the previous reviews, cannot comment on lunch/dinner as we didn't see a food menu, but that doesn't mean we didn't get food. We stopped in for an afternoon drink. With our beer we were each given a mini ham sandwich, a mini burger and...a fish tostada. My husband ordered a 2nd beer and we each received a chicken wing potato wedge. Although the sign says cantina the place felt like a big slick sports bar. The staff were busy checking reservations and arrangements for the boxing match that night. Service was pleasant and efficient. Its a good stop if you're ready for a break from colonial architecture and craft shopping. As we left, we were asked by a guy in a black cowboy hat why we were leaving...he would be playing norteño music shortly. We didn't turn back, so are unable to review the live entertainment. The Sanchez Pascua market is diagonally across the street on Porfirio Diaz. Its small but worth a look if you enjoy markets. Cosijopi changes its name to Humbolt leads directly to Llano park.

Lo mejor no hay otros, toda la cadena del grupo gastronómico Tomas inn es lo mejor, higiene, excelente servicio sazón el mejor por siempre.
