Casa Taviche - OAXACA DE JUÁREZ

Delicious food w/ good hot chocolate. Many different mezcal drinks at the bar. Very crowded on a Friday night w/ tourists expats. The menu prices are moderate for the area and not cheap; this is more accurate than a single .... Would you like to come back here. Many good vegan, vegetarian options.

It almost seems silly leaving a review for a place so highly rated but we were so impressed I'm doing it anyway. The location is great (8-10 min walk east of the Zocalo), inside is bright, clean and tastefully decorated. The food menu is small...but changes often and the items we had were all quite fresh and delicious. It was nice to try some more sophisticated plays on traditional Oaxacan dishes. The tuna was cooked perfectly (which doesn't happen often when you like it seared). The apps and salads shouldn't be overlooked, they are excellent. Most importantly the service was outstanding. We did not have a reservation and it was a busy holiday and despite that we were accommodated with zero fuss. Eveyone, particularly our waiter, was extremely friendly. Highly recommend.

I seldom give 5 stars but this cosy little restaurant earned every one. Not pretentious but clean, comfortable and welcoming. Great value. A nice little patio around the back and a welcoming atmosphere. Now the food. Outstanding. Our best meal in Oaxaca. The menu changes...daily for dinner so any suggestions would not be useful. The chocolate flan was a big hit with me though. Service was friendly, efficient and our waiter spoke enough English to be able to work with my basic Spanish. So, if you want the terrace with a view and mariachis and special event experience I suggest another option. I you want a more authentic experience this is your place.

We have in very beautiful and highly rated places in Mexico City, Puebla and, now, Oaxaca. This restaurant is equal and simpler and less expensive.

The restaurant marked all dishes in Spanish and English, which is extremely helpful! I ordered the ceviche and it was absolutely unbelievable, the flavors were fantastic But the vegetarian options were limited to Mushroom based foods, with the exception of a Chickpea and...Sweet potato soup. What neither this vegetables wanted to contain... I would recommend this restaurant for meat eaters, but probably not for vegetarians
