We decided to try this place. We are so glad we found it. The staff were so amazing, friendly and accommodating. We went for dinner and it was not busy at all.
Went there with a friend (we're both vego). normally there's just a couple of choices for us, but the menu was quite extensive even for us! the service was lovely, friendly. my only complaint (and this is because i work in hospitality too!) was that they do need a little more product knowledge! but the food.. good lord!! it was truly incredible! the mushrooms entree, the pasta (we had the baked ziti and 'prawns' with capellini) and finished off with the tiramisu. I would 100% go back again! must visit for good vego italian!
Solid lovely rustic Italian food. Great wait staff, very friendly. Chef spent lots of time saying hello to guests in the dining room. Small, tight seating, but that kind of place that you just don't care. First time here tonight... have picked meals for the next 2 visits!
This place is very deceiving in almost every aspect. With a name like 'Nonna and I' one would expect an Italian chef or as a minimum an Italian waiter/waitress but in my case we got neither. The owner/chef is Egyptian (he told me he was born in Alexandria) and the waitress was Asian. Despite this I like to give every place I visit the benefit of the doubt. This turned out to be a bad decision on this occasion. Although the place was empty we were directed to a tiny table against the wall adjacent the kitchen. Immediately we had to ask the waitress to turn off the air-conditioner as it was directed straight at us. This turned out to be my second bad call because as soon as it was turned off the smell or pet urine presented itself. It seemed to be coming from the carpet on the wall next to us (yes, I did say the 'carpet' on the wall). Anyway by this stage we were committed to soldier on as we had ordered our food and also because of so many 5 star reviews this place received, not sure how! Anyway all this would have been forgotten had the food been good but unfortunately it wasn't. The bruschetta was fridge cold with the bread being stale. The chef's Nonna also apparently taught him to drown the toppings in balsamic vinegar and then sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top. Worst bruschetta imaginable! Next came the fried calamari and these appeared to either be off or just not cooked enough as they were very soft but chewy at the same time, hard to explain but just didn't taste right. Finally our mains arrived and the tomato sauce (supposedly Napoletana style) was so garlicky that Hollywood could never make another 'Twilight' movie. The other dish, 'Chicken alla Nonna' was so soggy because it was floating in a sea of ........... mmmm, I really don't know what that liquid was. Anyway on the plus side the sparkling water was aaaaaaamazing! LOL. Seriously people don't encourage this sort of practice by going there to eat. As an Italian born in Rome and growing up in Australia around some amazing Italian home cooked food it really makes this place a disgrace to call itself 'Nonna and I'. and serve 'Italian' food.
