Southwell Fish - Norwich

We moved to Southwell 4 years ago and were glad to find something sour here. The first time we had fish and chips from here everything was literally dripping with oil. I tried to soak up some with a kitchen roll, but I ended up with a bunch of paper full of oil. The second visit was just as bad. I should have learned from the first visit. We haven't been back in 4 years, but tonight I thought I would give them another chance to see if it had improved. It hasn't. Although I can't complain about the portion size, both the fish and chips were swimming in oil. I have no idea what oil they use, but it leaves a taste in the mouth. I usually drive to Newark to Appleton's door, but I didn't want to drive there tonight. Big mistake that won't be repeated in the near future.

Banging fish and chips! Cooked to perfection. Fresh and not greasy at all. The portions are insane. Fair play to the person who can finish a large portion of these chips. The lady behind the counter is friendly AF, guaranteed to brighten your day. To top off the whole experience, my fortune cookie always guarantees prosperity and wealth, which, although has not yet come true, I still appreciate. Long live Southwell Fish Bar!

We now travel here to get our fish and chips, and it is worth the journey past 3 (yes 3) chip shops. The food is of excellent quality and most portions are good (except last night when the chip portion was small). All food is cooked to order, so expect a wait, but it is worth it. The fish is delicious, with crispy batter, tasty white flesh that is moist. The chips may look average but are tasty and enjoyable, much better than many chips that I really don't like. The staff is friendly and prices are good. They also use paper, not polystyrene, which is also good. I highly recommend it as the best chippy in the area currently.

Always good, fresh food cooked to order. Very friendly staff however I hold them highly responsible for my gain in weight!

The first thing I noticed was there wasn't a single eye in any chip!!...they are delicious. I had large cod it was fresh and full of flavour and on the same standard as a coastal fish shop. My new local chippy.
