I have to say, this place deserves the best review without a doubt. It's a solid 10/10. I've tried about six different types of tacos, along with many other dishes, and they all taste amazing. Honestly, this is the best restaurant to eat at—no exaggeration!
This Mexican restaurant is undoubtedly my favorite. I walk in with an empty stomach and leave completely satisfied with the delicious food. I've been a loyal customer for years, and I've tried other Mexican restaurants in Port Chester, Bridgeport, and Stamford, but none can compare to the Mexican cuisine at Los Portales in Norwalk, CT.
My experience at this restaurant was mediocre at best, and I probably wouldn’t order from here again. The tamales were quite good with nice flavors; they were the real deal. However, the Lomo saltado was lacking in taste. I had requested it to be spicy, and while I could have accepted it being not spicy at all, it was actually unseasoned—no salt, no pepper, nothing. The fries were not crispy at all (I understand that it was a to-go order, but this wasn’t just a case of fries getting soggy over time; they simply never had the chance to be crispy). Additionally, the onions were barely cooked. I tried to salvage it by using the salsas they provided. The meat in the Chilaquiles con Carne (both verdes and rojos) was somewhat seasoned and cooked fairly well, but the chilaquiles themselves had a strange flavor. Overall, I was not impressed.
They serve delicious pastries right at their entrance, providing options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and more. We stopped in for a quick snack and were delighted with our treat! If you're staying at the hotel and happened to miss breakfast, this place is an excellent alternative, conveniently located just across the street!
