The room was rundown, curtain poles damaged and loose. 1 pillow was stained all over and disgusting. Another had a smoking burn hole. There was faint black stains on the sheet and other pillows. The toilet position in the bathroom was far to close to the wall and the radiator was in the way. The door rattled and banged everything someone walked past. The upgraded king-size bed was to singles pushed together with a king-size mattress but one of the beds was inadequate support. After a long drive and not knowing the area I stayed but £125 room was shockingly over priced. You don't always get what you pay for.
We dined at The Portland for their Sunday carvery and it was absolutely delicious. I opted for a medium portion, but a small would have been sufficient due to the huge portions of meat and variety of vegetables available. We even had leftovers to take home wrapped in foil. Unfortunately, we did not stay overnight so I cannot comment on the rooms.
Absolutely fantastic place to stay, food is excellent and the staff are very friendly and professional.
This was our second visit to the Portland and again we were not disappointed. The service was good and the rooms large and well decorated. Our shower room was huge. We ate in the hotel both nights and the menu is varied to suit every taste and the meals are plentiful and very nice. Breakfast was buffet still but plenty to eat. It is also in a good location to visit Northumberland to the north and south. We will be back.
Just had a Sunday carvery at portland ashington and I must admit it's the first time I've actually left some meat for the dog . Portions of meat were thick not like some well known eateries. The decor is very pleasant and had 2 wonderful pints of John smiths definitely go again.
