With that being said let a former townie explore this place for you. This place was formerly the Palace Hotel. Not a very festive place to frequent. And definitely not as clean. Now with new owners, and a huge renovation. This place is amazing to visit for lunch or dinner now. The main area for the dining experience is huge, colorful and welcoming. They've used every space they could in here. The bar is a typical U shaped bar with several brews on tap, full capability to make you a mixed drink and fountain drinks as well. Mugs are stored in the freezer to make sure you get that frosted experience. The bar is located to the front, the room left over is filled with tables for dining. Enough seating in here for you to be able to have a party here. The food, for lack of better terming, is amazing. Everything seems to be homemade. My family had an array of items during this experience. I opted for the hot turkey sandwich which came with mashed potatoes and everything covered in gravy. Eating this dish made me feel like I was home eating a home cooked meal, turkey cut just right, lumpy mashed potatoes, and gravy galore. The burger my dad got was huge and cooked to his liking. Everyone in my party had fries except me. The fries are fresh cut, and you definitely can tell here. And the portion size definitely is huge. Enough for you to know you should stop eating, but you just can't stop. As far as the hotel part, sixteen up to date rooms with flat screen TVs and private baths. Prices aren't too bad for a night either.
Stayed here last night while travelling through on a motorcycle trip. This place is difficult to find if you don't know what you're looking for but it's a hidden gem. Rooms are clean. Flat screen TVs on the walls in the rooms. The restaurant/bar on the main floor has excellent homemade food. Reasonably priced too. I would recommend this hotel.
Nice clean rooms, air conditioning worked great, there were only 3 pillows instead of the standard 4 on a king bed, and pillows were very uncomfortable. Be fore warned, the bar downstairs closes at 2:00 am and the check in desk should have mentioned that you will hear noise and music till 2:00 am when staying on the second floor. Even with my earplugs in, I could still hear noise from the bar. I would have requested a third floor room had I known. Ate local food at church festival being held in town so did not have chance to try food at the hotel's grill. The local festival was wonderful. if you happen to be in town and want good food, friendly people, and fun family activities, attend their church festival.
We arrived later than we had planned due to snowy weather the night before Groundhog Day. The staff was aware of our pilgrimage to Punxsutawney the next morning and had prepared a map of the best route to get there and a list of Groundhog Day events and places to go in Punxsutawney. We had to leave at 3:30 a.m., so all of this was welcome, as was the great hospitality that we received in the restaurant. The food was very good and the service was wonderful. All of the staff was amazing, and even though we were only in our room for a short few hours, it was clean, neat, and tidy. The bed was comfortable, and overall the accommodations way more than adequate. Thanks to all at City Hotel for making our stay wonderful, and I highly recommend this establishment to anyone traveling through they area. They definitely have my business the next time I go to visit Punxey Phil!
We will start with the pros. The place is recently remodeled and very clean and ummmmm that 's it. There is nothing else good to say. Went there when they first opened after changing from The Palace (which I loved and did double the business). Ordered a NY strip steak and fresh stuffed chicken breast. When our meals came out they were terrible! My strip was cooked to the consistency of shoe leather even though it was ordered medium rare. The fresh chicken breast was frozen in the middle. I guess my definition of fresh and the City Hotels definition is different. Threw the years since then I have went in from time to time with friends to have a beer but never more than one it just isn 't inviting. I did try the wings a few weeks ago. Not sure about you but I do not care for my chicken medium rare. I 'd go to anywhere else in the area for a much better experience.
