The food is mostly Malaysian and possibly all vegan (the restaurant was first opened to serve the local Buddhist community, plus I've never noticed egg or milk being used). 2. The portions tend to be generous - you won't need to order that much. For two people, we tend to order 2, maybe 3 dishes, just depending how hungry we are. 3. Don't expect great service. 4. The restaurant may close early if quiet (sometimes 8pm), so arrive before 7:30. 5. Don't listen to the suggestions given by the owner. Just don't. If you're familiar with Malaysian food, order what you know and like. For me, the nasi lemak, belachan spinach, Chaozhou (Teochew) steamed fish, beef rendang and yutou mifen (I forget the English name) are best. 6. Don't be put off by the facade and decor - the restaurant is done in a typical SE Asian canteen style. 7. I've never seen the buffet working before - this is probably something that is only put on when there is some special occasion.
Absolutely beautiful! I am a veggie and it was the best food I'd ever had! Also best won ton soup I have ever had (including before I went veggie). Service could be slightly better but to be honest I couldn't care less!
Had a bad experience. Went there for the buffett for Sunday lunch. But the buffett was not available and was told would be served from the kitchen, which we thought was the same thing. They did not give us any menu, but asked if we want spicy or not. Then we had three dishes in our table, spinach, squid and duck. The food was soaking in oil and not appetising and we hate spinach. Then the rude shock came when we went to pay and was charged $36 for the three dishes, no idea how they came at the prices and I checked their webside and I believe should be charges only about $30. We learnt our lesson and are happy that we wont be visiting this place again, which is a shame as we are vegetarians!
Disgusting business practices of the owner. I really wanted to like this place, but it was probably one of my best badest experiences in perth, especially because the owner systematically and friedly tears customers especially older people. I came to try the entertainment book discount, but also because my mother is vegetarian and I'm always trying to try new places. while the hired employees are absolutely beautiful, I felt for them as the cranky old woman who leads the place seems to govern with an iron faust. the staff took my order and served it with a smile, and the eating itself was good that they also sold a lot to the house. but the personal told me that I can't pay her because she. read more
Sri Melaka is a mix of Malaysian Chinese style cuisine and vegetarian goodness. The menu is vegetarian, however, for all the meat eaters and vegetable haters, do not allow this to deter you, as the food is delicious! The restaurant uses what is called 'mock ' meat, most likely made from soy, but it is 100% enjoyable and tastes like the real thing (trust me, I made the mistake of believing I just ate real fish on my first visit). The pricing is decent and the portions are quite good for what you are paying. For those that eat a lot, I would recommend ordering three dishes between two people. The service is quite good with the usually younger waiters quick to take your order and are...read more
