So good. And the service. They have lots of choice on the menu and also specials posted above the bar. I believe all the specials include a pint. Excellent value and great idea. We had melon and prosciutto as one starter and king prawns as the other. I’ve posted the photos with this review. Both were excellent. For main we had scampi (daughter’s favourite and I had the special of grilled chicken kebab. (This was in the recommendation of another patron who raved about it they were right! What super impressed me was that the naan bread is homemade. Yes, homemade! The chef even came out and asked if I’d like garlic or chilli etc in it. So it was made just how I wanted it. Crazy good service and tasted, well, probably the best I’ve ever had. This place really deserves to succeed. Great staff, great food, lovely location. Good luck to you all in your new venture. We really enjoyed our evening at The Angel.
We have been going to the Angel for many years and thought I best write a review. My wife, family and I went yesterday for late Sunday lunch and the food as always was fantastic. I went for the beef Sunday dinner and the beef quite literally melted in my mouth. Considering we went at 4.30 and looking at last orders, everything was still super fresh. Additionally, the new land lady was lovely. We have a very picky 2 1/2 year old who eats hardly anything at the best of times. We weren't charged a penny for his small plate (which he didn't eat any way), and also didn't charge us for his small bowl of ice-cream. We have been many times as mentioned and will go again many more times. We are fortunate where we live for Sunday lunch options, but 9/10 we always decide on the Angel Inn.
I went to this restaurant with my family and we were very pleased. The food was excellent, the owner was nice, and the atmosphere was friendly. I would definitely visit again.
The chef is excellent even though the menu is small and the menu is written on cheap and flimsy pieces of paper. There is a problem at the moment with what drinks you can actually buy at the pub and this needs addressing pronto. The new pool table just in front of the toilets is a dire mistake. Not in keeping with a rustic village pub, noisy and in the way of people going to the toilets. It looks awful! The complaints about the sticky tables needs addressing but I can state that this is not “years worth of stickiness” as one customer stated but rather the fault of the previous owner who foolishly instructed his staff to anti bac the table and then use furniture polish afterwards whilst still wet from the anti bac spray . Hence the horrible sticky tables. There is no reason why these couldn’t be rubbed and sanded down though to eradicate the problem. Carpet is old fashioned and a kick of paint plus a removal of some of the dated ornaments would work wonders too.
Agree with Unpath’s review. Great food best Sunday roast around, sadly marred by the sticky tables and tired look. However the new owners have put their all into this place and I hope people give this place a chance. In time they intend to do the place up staff are very friendly and hospitable. We will continue to support them just sort out the sticky tables and rip the old carpets out! Well done for trying to make a go of it!
