Coral Court Szechuan Cuisine

Would come here more frequently (since the food tastes ok/generic Chinese) if we weren't treated as if meals were given out for free. Ridiculously gruff service by owner-cum server-cum-phone order-taker-cashier. Made us sit on a tiny table near the drafty front door, when the rest of the place was empty...despite our protests.

My family have been eating at Coral Court for 25+ years. When they were on Lonsdale. Tonight I was hungry, and didn't feel like cooking; decided I wanted Chinese. Wonton Soup, Lemon Chicken, Sweet n Sour pork, vegetable Chow Mein. The wonton soup lacked flavor, the vegetable Chow mien noodles were uncooked, The lemon Chicken was over cooked, and very dried out, and the sauce was bitter. I found the sour in the sweet n sour, but the Sweet was missing..

As a preamble I have eaten Szechuan in China, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Canada and the USA and elsewhere and have previously had all the dishes noted below many times.. This is small restaurant has less than 30 seats and I thought to try it out. Quite dark but OK, however the kitchen staff were for the duration our visit talking or arguing very loudly which was quite.disturbing.We ordered tea, hot and sour soup, chicken corn soup, mou shu chicken, orange peel beef (extra orange peel), beef with ginger and onion (extra ginger).I asked about if they had other tea as it tasted like dish water. I was told they only had jasmine. If this was jasmine it was dark but absolutely NO hint of jasmine. The chicken corn soup must have had extremely shredded chicken as it could not be seen nor tasted.The Hot and sour soup was certainly sour but was missing something ...so so.The beef with ginger and onion was VERY OILY and did not taste of fresh ginger maybe powder ginger (usually I have had fine or course chopped ginger) let alone extra ginger.Likewise the OILY orange peel beef,very little meat mostly veg, had NO flavor of orange (elsewhere had good flavor of orange), let alone extra orange.Mou Shu chicken again VERY OILY with overabundance of vegetables, very little chicken. Not enough crepes (5) for amount of food, but had to pay extra for more crepes. I did not. Also, limited amount of Hoisin sauce given.Fried rice so so.There are other better Szechuan restaurants around less expensive and I find it hard to reconcile what I was served and positive comments of others.I would never go here again nor recommend it!

This is a great place to order szechuan and exotic dishes It is always a treat to try something new. You do have to enjoy hot and spicy as the majority of dishes do have a good kick. Love tis place.

I have been impressed with the food I have tried the only thing is the combo dinners for one are limited and if you want variety you need to go with others to get it or over eat. The hot and sour stop is excellent as is the dry pork and squid and Chilli àman ginger beef send the standard combo good good yo but usual standard stuff. Worth a visit for sure.
