Sorrento Italiano - North Tyneside

I made a reservation for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised to find that Sorrento wasn't crowded. The food is incredibly delicious, all homemade, and the wine selection is excellent. It's such great value for the quality offered. The decor resembles a charming little trattoria in Italy; it was warm and inviting, and the music was wonderfully eclectic. We will definitely be returning!

As we entered downstairs, the corridor felt very unwelcoming and seemed to have been neglected for years. A dusty copy of the phone book and Yellow Pages greeted us. We then climbed steep stairs to a room that looked like it had been stuck in another decade, in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint. The tea towels plastered on the walls showcasing various British dialects struck me as odd; I’d keep the Geordie one but would get rid of the others. Additionally, it’s 2023, and they don’t accept credit or debit cards. Thankfully, we had passed by earlier and picked up a menu, so we were aware of that. There’s no website to check before your visit either. While we did enjoy the food, we probably won’t be returning anytime soon.

I visited Sorrento on October 8, 2023, for lunch, and I was immediately charmed by the cozy atmosphere that evokes a classic Italian feel, which I absolutely love. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I opted for the fillet steak, which was cooked to perfection and utterly delicious. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the exceptional quality of the food. I highly recommend checking out this little gem!

We dine here fairly regularly and it is always a lovely experience with delicious food cooked by Romolo. (I hope I have your name correct! Last night I had the pollo sorrento which was flavourful and creamy. The wine is always nice and we had extra courses brought to us which were so good. (You just never know what Romolo will create next. Vegetable soup, garlic bread and tiramisu in addition to our ordered courses this evening. Delicious! Many thanks!
