I don’t know how they justify the prices. Tiny salads are £18 and more for burgers etc. And yet despite being located on a gorgeous marina all you get if you sit outside here is a view of a load of cars in a carpark! So where does their overinflated self valuation come from? It’s a mystery! We made the mistake of ordering the charcuterie board. Talk about DIY! We were charged £17 for this. We had to go back and ask where it was twice when we were told there was a wedding upstairs of over 100 people and they were ‘struggling to cope’. I pointed out to them that they should have warned me of this when I was ordering so I have the choice of whether to still order or not. They shouldn’t be telling me this when I’m having to chase the food. This charcuterie board had just four razor thin slices of bread which was more dry than crusty and unappetising. No cheese, about 4 olives in a container which was majority oil, ruining the olives. A few wafer thin slices of mediocre salami and prosciutto and some leaves were the only other items. £17!! So, I really would avoid this place. You don’t get any of the benefit of other venues with an outdoor spot actually overlooking the water, the service is poor, the food is incredibly disappointing and I don’t know if I’ve ever visited a more overpriced pub. I just cannot understand how they’ve valued themselves this highly. Nothing was above average and much was below! You’ve been warned! -AN
My mum and I went for Sunday lunch and overall the visit was lovely. We were shown to our table quickly but others that came in after us were served first and even got their food before we ordered our drinks. We had a very rocky table which we had to hold in order to eat dinner, and I had to swap chairs for the same reason. The waitress was lovely and engaging. She went and got our drinks herself so they arrived within a few minutes. We ordered our food and we were asked about dietary restrictions, so I discussed this with the waitress. I advised that they are intolerances and I have checked the menu so happy for things to come as stated on the normal menu. Unfortunately, without discussion with me, my meal was changed and items (including extra sides) were completely missing. Again I had to explain that I was fine with them and that’s why I had ordered them. This meant that shared sides and elements of my meal didn’t arrive for another 5/10 mins so we were already halfway through our meals. I understand why these changes were made, but they should have discussed with me first, especially as I clearly stated they were fine. The roasts themselves were very tasty and so filling! It was a shame that they were selling pork roast dinners but had no apple sauce available (this was only 20-30 mins into serving so they started with no sauce and had not sold out). The service overall was very good and the waitress made my mum feel very special (it was her birthday).
I was really looking forward to eating here i had done the unthinkable and walked along until I liked the look of somewhere rather than looking at reviews! It's a really inviting looking place but once inside i just wasn't overly enamoured. The table that we chose to sit at wasn't clean and on closer inspection looked like it hadn't had had a really good clen in a while I am aware that I'm picky but the grooves in wooden tables should be cleaned regularly. I chose the nduja chicken while my husband chose the fish chips. The fish chips were okay nothing to write home about (and he's sampled a fair few)! and the side of onion rings were just slightly disappointing. My chicken turned out to be on the bone (which wasn't mentioned on the menu) and i'm not a fan of meat on the bone so would have appreciated that information. The chicken was dry in places and over done in others and was really bland. the chips were really good but the salad on the side was nearly as warm as the rest of the food and a good portion of it was wilted. Our server was really nice friendly as was the bar staff but the service was really quite slow. I really hate writing a bad review and I didn't have massive complaints as such but I definitely wouldn't eat there again.
The food was good, however don't expect to get your first choice. Starter of scotch egg not available, Sunday roast same, cheese board same, after dinner coffee also not available as machine was being cleaned. Very disappointing at point of ordering.
We brought our 13 wk old puppy in today, to ease him into dog friendly places in Portishead!! Great decision, staff and even the customers were very welcoming to our pup! A special thank you to Marcus! He made us feel very welcome! :
