The room was nice, but when we attempted to make a reservation for dinner at the restaurant, we were informed that they had no food available and no chef. The receptionist explained that we should have been notified, but due to a change in management, we were overlooked. We were provided with a list of other restaurants in the area to try instead. Unfortunately, on a cold night, we found that most of those places were closed. Breakfast was okay, but it was far from award-winning. Overall, we were very disappointed.
I am currently staying at the hotel. Lovely setting, charming character and a smashing breakfast. Compliments all round.
Very dated place out in the sticks. No signposts for the place which meant we took two wrong turns. We then saw a sign but later at another turn there was no sign. Do they not want people to go there. Typical Norfolk signs after WW2 not put back up I was told! Food poor they were trying to be upmarket e.g. carrots with small green tip on but this is not the place to do this. No one else there when we went.
The small restaurant is mainly set up with twin seating tables and lacks ambience and character. It was disappointing that the menu was quite limited during our stay at the hotel, but the dishes we chose were well cooked and presented nicely. The prices were reasonable, but the wine list required careful consideration. The service was polite and efficient. It seems that the restaurant is not a focal point in the location and the low-key nature of its offerings reflects the lack of investment in the establishment.
We were the only people in the restaurant. I ordered the belly pork but it was a little too greasy and I wouldn't choose it again. I had the duck pate with the walnut bread and that was lovely. Overall nice, but not exceptional.
