Jail House Cafe - North Dorset

The food, service, and overall experience were all fantastic at this restaurant. We had been considering visiting for some time and finally did today, and we were not disappointed. We both ordered the all-day breakfast, which was delicious. My husband particularly enjoyed the black pudding, saying it was the best he has had in a long time. The staff were friendly, polite, and very helpful, even going as far as to find out where the black pudding came from. We wanted to order dessert, but I didn't have enough cash on me (no cards accepted), but that just gives us another reason to come back soon. We highly recommend this place.

The Jailhouse cafe rocked! A great idea, A great cup of rosie and a great bacon baguette what more could you want in the morning. The staff and inmates are all very friendly a great place :

Visited on Saturday 06 May as a group of bikers on a ride out from Yeovil and we ended up at the cafe for a late breakfast. I opted for a bacon and egg bap and it was delicious, packed with bacon topped with a perfectly poached egg and cost just 3 quid!! The views outside the cafe are spectacular and well worth taking photographs of.

Excellent food and service from prisoners and staff. Can't recommend it highly enough. There's a stairlift for less able visitors and a wheelchair, a highchair and changing facilities for babies, and comfortable chairs for everyone in between!

The cafe has a very institutional feel, reminiscent of a church, hospital, or AgeConcern cafe. Located on the second floor of a multi-functional building that also houses the prison's learning centre, it was originally intended for prison staff and visitors but is now open to the general public from 10 to 3 (kitchen closes at 2). The menu offers simple food such as jackets and baguettes, which is satisfactory. The service was provided by two diligent staff members, with no inmates in sight and no "HMP" stencil on the cappuccino, as mentioned in a previous post. Despite the few reminders of the prison in the form of branded bags, mugs, and aprons, the atmosphere allows you to almost forget where you are. The cafe supports the rehabilitation of prisoners, making it a worthy cause to support if you are in the area and in need of a no-fuss lunch.
