The Raven and Republic - North Bay

In town for just one night and did a quick search to find recommended restaurants fairly close by. We arrived to find the bar half of the place bursting at the seams and the other, more sedate dining room empty. We'd arrived on one of their Trivia Nights which explained the crowd but we were seated in the empty dining room by a very pleasant, charming server who assured us it was fine to sit somewhere away from the crowd.Elegantly dark and monochromatic decor is an inspired choice and an added nod to the building's former life as an old house.I had the special of curried cauliflower soup and a side of the gnocchi dish while hubs settled for the mac and cheese since his first choice of bangers and mash was unavailable. All food was tasty and service was quick and attentive.The gnocchi was very slightly underseasoned but all in all a good dish. We indulged in a shared dessert of dark chocolate cheesecake (that lasted about two minutes on the plate!) and enjoyed a cup of decaf from fresh ground beans.There is a large, comfy seating area on the porch outside but all the activity was happening inside on this particular evening.

The food was lacking taste,lacking presentation and was best described as under whelming. the Raven has been on my list of best places in town to go but after tonights dinner I would be hard pressed to recommend it at all.

I went to see a musician in this bar and everything was perfect the beer selection, the staff, the service, the tables, the athmosphere... until the music started and people still kept talking sooo loud I could not enjoy the music. So I quess it is not the best place for gigs but to have a beer with friend it is an optimal place!! I enjoyed how the staff introduced their beers and let us taste them before making the decision!

Best place to see live music, touring bands and week day trivia. Great food and cocktails in a chill atmosphere.

Had dinner at this place. It has great atmosphere and friendly wait staff. They had just started a new menu. The menu is small but everything was great. I would like to return on a night with live music. Worth checking it out.
