The bar and kitchen simply cannot cope with the number of...covers this place tries to serve. Clearly the staff are used to being complained at because they have a rotation system in place so you never have the same person (occasionally) serving you. You could maybe forgive it if it was takeaway prices and the music was good....but nope, a comedically bad 'singer ', bland mainstream chart music and high-end food prices make this a 1-star review. I nearly forgot to mention, it 's in the middle of nowhere.
Visited on 15th November.First impressions are fantastic, the atmosphere is great, the decor unusual but eye catching and nice. We then sat down for a very long time without a drink being offered or a menu in sight, after chasing these several times we had...a cocktail, very nice and of good quality. An extra hour passes before they want to take out order, and well over an hour (pushing 2) after this before we have our food. There we quite a few of us, but for the food to come out over a 30 minute period wasn't good enough, the service in general was poor, their attitude shocking. Once I had the food I did enjoy it, I had the house wrap and it was tasty and plenty of it,shame I already had a bitter taste in the mouth from the previous 3 hours. People who had pizzas, steaks and wrap tended to enjoy their food. The platters were not thought out and this was the last thing to be put on the table after 30 mins, meaning the pizza people had the choice of waiting for others, meaning a cold pizza...or eating straight away, meaning their meal had been eaten before others had started. Saying that I had a really nice evening, but this was in spite of the place, not because it added anything at all. Bill came to about 45 euro each, was it worth it?No. Would I go back? No.Did we leave a tip? For the first time in many many years, not a chance.
Put very simply, this place has the wow factor! I have never seen an industrial space so successfully converted for public use. The design is simply spectacular. However, the evening quickly descended into scenes reminiscent of apocalypse now . I have never seen so many angry...and hungry guests shouting at waiters, or until now, joined them in doing so. After being seated, it took 1 hour to be served with drinks, and a further 2.5 before food arrived. The revolving door of different waiters who served us were aggressive, inattentive, and at bluntly put, would make better careers as prison wardens. Not once during the evening were any apologies, explanations, or answers to questions about the absent food provided. When the food eventually did arrive, an already terrible evening worsened. Food arrived at different intervals, the kitchen made mistakes, and steaks were plopped on plates with zero presentation or garnish. As for the highlight 70 € lobster seafood platter, which was to be grilled at the table (how fun sounding), this eventuated to nothing more than an absence of lobster and globular mess of uncooked prawns and octopus. The accompanying bed of coals were even still cold to touch! This evening ended with a 50€ pp bill, and not a single happy guest. As we left, and walked past the many other hungry and angry guests, it was evidently clear that Dr. Thompsons is no place to come if you hope to see a happy face!
We hosted a big group +150 at this location. Beautiful old factory with good parking. Staff was really good. Good dj and good food. We had small food items burgers pizza and more and good quality. Really enjoyed ourselves!
