Every single thing was delicious: salad, fried chicken, hot rolls, mashed potatoes with or without gravy, green beans, apples, fantastic coleslaw and amazing chocolate pie! Don’t miss this gem of a hometown restaurant.
My wife and I left before we even had a chance to order. Why you might ask? Lack of any form of service or caring by the entire staff. We waited to be seated very patiently close to 15 minutes with no one in front of us and the lobby completely empty. Several members of the waitstaff looked us dead in the eyes numerous times, but wouldn't even acknowledge our presence, let alone seat us or let us know that someone would be with us shortly. Finally we were seated by a gentleman who did apologize for our wait, but it honestly felt half hearted. Once we were seated, we once again were completely ignored by the entire staff, this time for 15 to 20 minutes and once again with numerous members of the waitstaff making eye contact with us and walking right past us with ZERO care for our wellbeing. No one spoke to us at all, other than the gentleman who seated us. It was at that point that my wife and i decided to get up and leave, again with no one saying a word to us. Back in the 90s when I lived in St. Albans, I ate here numerous times, with no issues. What a difference 25 years makes. Never again.
Had been wanting to go there for many years as I saw it was close to the Mardi Gras Casino, but mostly because Diehl is my maiden name, but as far as I know, we are not related. If you want a hot, home made family style meal, this is the place to go. Lots of choices and our waitress could not have been nicer. When a mistake was made with our order, we did not say anything, but they picked up on it in the kitchen and they brought us the correct meal without us even asking. Food was delicious and I wish we could have returned, but was unable to do so. Displays are scattered in every area of the dining room and you could tell just by looking that they had been in this location for many years and well loved by local folks. Bought a shirt to take home. It’s a silly thing to put on a bucket list, but I did and happy that I could check it off. Wish I lived closer, but at least I got there!
We saw the sign from the road and the outside looked outdated. However, sometimes appearance are deceiving. That is an understatement for Diehl’s. The walls inside are adorned with license plates, NASCAR photos, memorabilia as well as cowboy film stars and memorabilia. It’s totally different. We went for lunch and the menu selections were amazing. The menu features salads, sandwiches and meal entrees. And it’s all homemade. My significant other ordered a chicken sandwich, which said was delicious. She also ordered a “slice” of homemade coconut pie. Slice is the operative word. It was huge. I ordered fried chicken livers, homemade cole slaw and cottage cheese, with fresh homemade rolls. Kyra waited on us and she was beyond exceptional. The chicken livers portion was huge enough for two people. The dining experience was outstanding. If we were are ever in the area again, we will definitely stop.
The food was excellent, the staff was very friendly and warm, not many mom an pop stores around anymore, I will return as i am moving to WV. and only a few miles from the restaurant! I love this place
