Went to Green Herring on a Friday night. We had a great time, the menu had plenty of good options and the servings were reasonably sized and very tasty. Service was excellent, the waiter was the right amount of attentive, knew the menu inside out and wasn't pushy. It is lovely inside the restaurant, with open fires and a cosy ambience. Would definitely go again.

My husband and I went to Green Herring this evening on a date night while visiting Canberra. While the restaurant itself is cosy and historic, the food was terrible. We had the prawns for entree, they were overcooked and the sauce was lackluster. I had the goats cheese ravioli for main. I am not sure there was any goats cheese in them and the pasta was gluey. My husband had the beef, it was overcooked, undersized and for all the four condiments could taste nothing but garlic. The food is very expensive and the portions are small. It's a shame because you can tell the staff care and are trying really hard to make it a good experience. Time for a new chef! Would not recommend unless the food changed. We have retreated home to fill up on what is left in our cupboard: pork crackling chips *sigh* - date night over.
