The night before we left, we went, and I must say, glad we did. If you are looking for heavy sauce and things drowned in spices, this might not be the place for you. This is VERY mom and pop's dining experience. Honestly, this restaurant is the best place I had food the whole week I stayed in Nice. Their menu is on a chalkboard, so the food is on rotation, therefore what is served is what is fresh that day. I am not normally a steak eater, but it was on the menu, and the waitress, I am assuming the owners wife, suggested it, so I had it, and it was cooked to perfection; tender, juicy and savory and with generous portion. For appetizer, I had escargot - I am not an expert at it, since I was corrected on how to eat it properly by the woman who served us- but, it was excellent and it wasn't heavy on garlic, like most tourist attracting places that serve them. This place doesn't speak English fluently, but they are so friendly and great hosts that the dining experience is fun and relaxing, it's like dining at a family function, since they make you feel like home! I would recommend anyone visiting Nice to dine at this place!
The owner and house is warm, food is delicious.competitive price, Taste good and Everything are OK, warm and nice host.
We wanted to eat near our apartment on the port but the restaurant we planned on going to was closed on that night so we tried La Cigone which we had walked by a few times. This was a stroke of luck and we were glad we did, because the place has a very homely feel inside, the owners welcoming and the food very good especially if you are in the mood for something other than Italian or French Mediterranean. I had the recette Flammekueche avec Munster which was exceptionally delicious. My boyfriend had the hearty Choucroute Garnie which had ample portions of various saucisses, ham, potatoes over sauerkraut. He said it was really good and just the ticket on that rainy and seasonably cold evening. We were torn between biere or wine but decided to go with pichets de rouge and were quite satisfied. The entire meal was a very good value and would strongly recommend.
On our last day in Nice we visited this restaurant at lunchtime and we wished we had discovered it Months before. Really enjoyed the ambience and when the food arrived it was exactly what we had been looking for.
Had an excellent meal here the three meat combo that was like a casserole with potatoes and carrots was first class meat just melted nice bread to soak up the gravy that was left my wife had the specialty thin crust type of pizza base with cheese ham and mushroom very nice and filling. One family of three sitting next to us had at least three of them in the time we were there must be good!! Waitress was very friendly and helpful
