We went there on a Saturday night and it's been the best Indian food we have had so far in Toronto.
Came here with two friends who are avid Indian food loversWe each picked a dish and shared - spinach paneer, lamb saag and black lentil daal.
The food is awesome. If you can put up with amateur service, then this place is well work a visit. For us, we were in vacation mode and as a result just expect mediocre service. Though the servers at the restaurant are so bad, it is humorous. The night we went, there were five other tables being served and two young ladies taking the orders and delivering the food. Let me share our experience:The restaurant is huge - has a large back room. Our group of 6 walks in (we made reservations) and the young lady is surprised by us. She questions if we are there for dinner. The answer is yes. She walks us to a table next to another large party of five. Most of the remaining tables in the restaurant are empty. After we are seated, she hands out three menus to our group of six and asks if that will be good enough. She next places a pitcher of water at the end of the table. She then disappears for ten minutes.Upon her return, she asks "are you ready" - that is all she said. We inquired if she wanted to take our drink orders first. Given we were hungry, we told her we would combine the two. No one has explained that drinks are the most profitable thing in a restaurant (and also helps pads the total for a tip). We placed our order and she entered it into an mini ipad. She had to read it back three times to confirm. My youngest kid wanted to order an appetizer as her main course. We had to explain that concept since we seem to be the first people ever to request this. After our order is placed, she and the other young lady disappear. After 15 minutes, the two young ladies start delivering food to our table. To this point, we still have not gotten the drink orders we placed. When the food starts arriving, we ask about our drinks and she says "we are working on them." Our drinks were not complicated - mostly soda. After three trips from the kitchen, all food has arrived. It took 8 more minutes for our drinks to come.During our meal, not once did the young lady stop by and ask how the food was or offer to refill the water pitcher (which has been empty since we filled out glasses). At one point when another table left, one of the young ladies takes a dust buster vacuum to clean up under their table (duster buster vacuums are VERY loud). The fact that she was not cognizant of the noise is an indication of how clueless she is of a guest experience. Towards the end of the meal, she stop and asks if certain people are done and then reaches over the table to get their plates. Once we were all done and waiting for our bill, she continues to clean the table. Once completely clean, she says "are you done?" to us. We ask that we are waiting for the bill. She says, "you go to the counter." Huh, typically you should tell people if you are going to have a practice completely different from every other restaurant in the world. I can understand paying at the counter, but everywhere else they give you the bill at the table. It is obvious the two young woman have zero training in serving food. I don't know if my teenager would do better, at least it would be on par. It is one of the first times I have felt like leaving a 0% tip since our server did absolutely nothing to earn it.Regardless of all of this, the food was very good. The butter naan was great!
The food was very good with great flavors and good portions. The server was inattentive often disappearing for long stretches. When she went to the table nearby she would not check to see how we were doing. She neglected to tell us that we had to go to the counter to get and pay the bill so we sat there for a long time waiting for the bill. My wife said the women's bathroom was yucky.
