That Cafe - Newport

I used to enjoy coming to this restaurant, but it has changed a lot since the lockdown. Now it feels more like a casual diner for construction workers, which is not necessarily a bad thing but the atmosphere is a bit more rugged. I'm also not as impressed with the coffee anymore, it doesn't taste as fresh as it did before.

This cozy cafe may be small, but it has excellent staff, delicious food, and charming decor. It's a great place for families and the staff are exceptional with children. Highly recommended!

Asked for some vinegar as none on tables, and it was only when I unscrewed the lid and went to sprinkle the vinegar that it became apparent there was no plastic sprinkler. My meal was swimming in vinegar and ruined, my clothes and boots soaked. I told the woman what had happened and she just looked at me and said as she shrugged 'that 's just how the bottles are '. I then asked why she hadn 't warned me?... because 'that 's just how the bottles are ' Then asked, how is a customer supposed to use the bottle without it 's sprinkler?... because 'that 's just how the bottles are ' At no point did she offer any apology or show basic customer service. I stared at her, repeating that my meal was ruined until she finally offered to replace my food. She really didn 't want to. I won 't go back again.

A delightful little find, extremely friendly, very reasonably priced and a lovely light open aspect. Highly recommended if you’re after a relaxed bohemian breakfast, which my whole family really enjoyed.
