I recently visited the coffee shop in TJ Hughes on a Thursday, as they offer a 20% discount for pensioners on that day. However, when I asked for my discount, the manager initially told me it was no longer available. He then gave me a discount card to use on future visits, but when I tried to use it right away, he said it could only be used later. Other pensioners in the cafe also did not receive a discount card when they visited. This experience makes me question the legitimacy of the offer, and I believe the manager should remove the discount sign if the offer is not being honored.
After seeing the advertised meal on posters in the window, my husband and I decided to try out this restaurant. The prices were reasonable, but unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. My husband ordered a cheese scone with a beef dish, but they forgot to include the cheese in the scone and the vegetables were cold. I received a fresh beef baguette after waiting 10 minutes, only to be told they had run out of beef. I ended up with a quiche with chips and a lackluster salad. The quiche was disappointing, but the coffee was decent. The overall experience was subpar, with dirty toilets and non-functioning escalators. The lack of customers was surprising, as the place used to be busy. We will not be returning and recommend others to avoid this cafe. This meal was one of the worst we have had in a long time.
During my lunch visit to this restaurant, the server did not greet us with a smile, which was disappointing. It seemed like she may have been having a bad day, but it didn't affect my enjoyment of the meal. In fact, my companions and I found humor in trying to speculate why she appeared so unhappy.
