Fujiyama - Newbridge

I have eaten here +family several times since Fugiyama opened. TBH, it was probably the best oriental restaurant in Newbridge/S. Co.Kildare when it 1st opened. Mind u the bar was always pretty low in S. Co.Kildare for proper authentic oriental cuisine so 1 must bear that in mind when I speak about Fugiyama in this light. However over the intervening yrs their standards have slowly slipped thought the dine in experience is still one of the best of any oriental restaurant in Newbridge, the quality is OK but not as high as it once was when it first opened. 1stly, When we go there now all the staff r speaking either Mandarin r Cantonese not Japanese so if u r expecting it to be fully manned by Japanese staff u may be disappointed. It feels distinctly like Japanese restaurant run by Chinese staff. The veg. side plates r akin to an order of veg u would expect from a typical chinese takeaway uses too much oil. The tofu dishes if they were proper Japanese would have a crisp coating of batter on the outside be silky soft on the inside. But instread the last few times I've gotten tofu dishes the batter is soggy the tofu is limp looking. V. disappointing.The sushi is still of a high enough standard as to be acceptable westerners.The Tempura veg selection in the beginning when it opened would be things like you would expect in any typical Japenese restaurant in Asia like sweet potato slices, aubergine slices, courgette slices, mixed bell pepper slices, carrot slices, shiitake mushroom halves, Taro slices, asparagus fingers, potato slices, etc. In a crisp but light batter. Nowadays you are more likely to get a lot of lettuce slices coated in batter and one or two other veg in an batter that is both oily and heavy. Quite unpleasant on the pallete tbh. Exactly like I got in our Fugiyama takeaway tonight. Yuck!!I can definately say that takeaway from here is not recommended unless you are just getting sushi then you shouldn't be disappointed. However if you get any of the katsu currys, teriyaki or peanut satay dishes, sides or starters. They are watery and general sadly arrive cold. The tofu dishes like tofu katsu curry or peanut satay or tofu teriyaki have been particularly disappointing. Soggy limp battered tofu. Sauces are watery thin probably trying to save money n stretch out sauces further that once were much thicker and rich when you got a Fugiyama Takeaway and a mushy, soggy greasy mess of stir fried veg on the side. Very unappealing and un appetising indeed. Just like the meal I had tonight from them as a takeaway. So my review is bang up todate. Of the last 5 takeouts that I or someone in my immediate family have gotten from Fugiyama 3 have had something missing from them when we got home so very frustrating indeed. We did get our money back for the missing item after we complained but what good is that. Sauces miso's are not labeled see photos so when you open the contents of a meal where there are several peoples orders in a bag, no one knows whose sauce is who's and what sauce goes with which meal often. So I would be very hesitant in ordering a takeout from here. If you really want Japanese sushi or katsu curry from Fugiyama go in to the actual restaurant and sit down to eat your meal rather than order a takeout. As my partner is Oriental Asian I know what I am talking about and I know good or bad tofu dishes when they are served up to me having been eating oriental food every other night for over 30years now. In case anyone disputes my comments I am attaching some photos of the leftovers from our takeaway meal we got at Fugiyama in Newbridge last night, you can see the tofu agedashi barely covered in the batter limp looked this when I got it, just like my mains tofu was. Unmarked sauces, As said the sushi was ok BUT when u pay ~98€/4 people 4 a takeout menu u expect higher stds! I stand behind my review as fair, transparent, honest factual.

Delicious food, good menu, nice atmosphere and lovely staff. Reservations not always necessary. Decent kids menu too.

So far it's the best Japanese food, everytime I'm around that area I always go back to have more, the food never disappoint and the service is really good, you don't wait to long for your food and it's worth the money so far for me and when I go there I make sure my tummy is empty because I know I will be full and lazy when I leave I will even be lazy to drive my self home and wanting to catch a public transport.. Fujiyama it's really good when you find or see one go ahead and try it you won't regret. best dish I always go for it's their Ramen selection, restaurant is clean and professional and the servers nice and welcoming and some of the dishes looks cool and I still have a lot to try and I know it's going to be good so that's all I don't know what else to say about this place now, I get hungry when ever I think about it hahahaha.
