We both had Sunday lunch with the choice of beef or turkey or both, we had both and it didn't disappoint. Plenty of meat and good choice vegetables, lovely home made Yorkshire puddings and plenty of gravy. For desert we had chocolate and raspberry fondant which was also vey tasty and filling. Would definitely recommend. 9/10 trip out, my only criticism would be the lack of card services. As currently they have no card facility's just cash only. However the lovely woman that was serving said that they was looking into getting this. Will be returning again once in the area.
Came to visit and it was perfect! Newly re-opened this week! The staff are friendly and the food was lovely and fresh. Can’t wait to visit again, already booked in for Sunday Lunch.
Nicely refurbished restaurant with average food. We were the only people in the restaurant at 5.15 pm but service was poor in that we had to wait what I considered, too long for our meal. Don’t know how they would have coped if it had been busy.
This is one of the most beautiful buildings in the area, full of character and original charm. Recently upgraded at huge cost and very reasonably priced food and drinks. I cannot comment about the accommodation but have been informed it also is very good. What isn’t good is being met outside the main door by groups of smokers, puffing away, dropping their cigarette ends on the ground and steps. Having to walk through a fugue of smoke isn’t pleasant in any way!! Also to be met with a huge notice stuck on the door telling you ‘No Phones Allowed ‘ is a bit much. This is a wifi free hotel no laptops, pcs or phones, Oh and no music either!!
Have visited this place several times now. It's always been a good experience. You can often get a table in there when everything is booked up, but that's not because it isn't a good place. It's just that it's a Samuel Smith pub and they have this eccentric rule about not promoting their venues through advertising, etc. Why? No idea. Neither do the staff. It's just the way they do things. Speaking of eccentricity, they have a number of other rules you're not supposed to use mobile phone in there, you're supposed to only pay by cash now, and a whole other range of quirky rules that make it a very different experience. That's said, the decor is lovely, bit like a well kept National Trust venue, the food is good and surprisingly cheap and the staff are very friendly. We've enjoyed it every single time we've been there. Definitely worth a visit. Not sure whether my recommendation here constitutes advertising, in which case I may find myself barred next time I visit.
