Awsome food in the hood . Every Brooklyn knight needs an amazing sub 7 sandwich. I have One everyday
No. 7 tries really hard, and I've tried really hard to like them. But I'm giving up. I just don't think it's gonna happen either way. Each time I've had their subs, they are flavorful, but the bread is always dry and so are the inside ingredients. Dry bread. Dry chicken. Who wants that? This is New York City, the home of the most amazing sandwiches on Earth. It blows my mind why No. 7 just blows so much. The only good thing this place has going for them are the Zapp's chips they serve with sandwiches. I'm originally from Louisiana, so these remind me of my youth As for atmosphere, this particular location is positioned inside a basement food court. The key word here is basement! Although the Plaza Food Hall is relatively interesting in terms of architecture and selection (there are quite a few sit down and counter-service restaurants inside the food hall), it is quite stuffy down in that basement! Like no air circulation--for realz. Maybe it's because I visited as the weather was changing from winter to spring, but come on... miserable, hot, stuffy, and not very inviting. There are tons of tourists about, so comfort should be a priority.
I grabbed the broccoli classic sandwich on my way to Central Park The food hall is a little hard to find. It is in the basement level below the Plaza Hotel (literally just across the street from Central Park), but the door to the entrance doesn't say Plaza Food Hall. Look for the Todd English Food Hall signs instead. The bread was just ok, but maybe it would have been better toasted (an offer I declined since I wasn't going to eat it right away). Untoasted, it wasn't super soft or light and crispy but just somewhere in the middle. The filling was interesting. Never have I ever thought to eat a sandwich filled with broccoli. The sauce was a little too tart for my preference, and I'm not the biggest feta fan, so I wouldn't crave it. But it was unique and tasted decent and filling, especially for a vegetarian sandwich. I recommend stopping by...there are other sandwiches if you're not interested in this one (although it's on CNN's top 9 NYC sandwiches to try list from a few years ago). Even if you don't want a sandwich, other food stalls are nearby too.
How good can a broccoli sandwich be? This place proved me wrong, and showed that broccoli can be whatever it sets its mind to. Broccoli Classic is a winning combo of roasted broccoli, lychee muchim, feta, fried shallots, and mayo. It 's hearty and flavorful from all the fix-ins, and the broccoli is bright and green, not boring. Great textures and flavors in every bite! There are plenty of meat options of course. I 've heard good things about their Queen of Jordan with ham, provolone, pickled blueberries, and BBQ chips for nice crunch. Again, a bunch of crazy flavors, but apparently it all works together. After my 1st visit at their original Flatiron location, I purchased their book A Super Upsetting Cookbook About Sandwiches , just to see what other Mad Hatter sandwich combinations were out there. All the wonky ingredients they called for though, I 'm leaving it up to the experts!
