I can only imagine the designer thinks he’s being clever and funny. If I hadn’t already paid, I would have walked away because it felt rather unprofessional. As for the "nata" itself, it’s nothing like crème brûlée or a croissant. The filling has some sort of starch, making it gooey and sticky, reminiscent of condensed milk. This has been a common experience with all the pasteis de nata I’ve tried. While it’s not necessarily a problem, if you're expecting a rich eggy and creamy texture like crème brûlée, you will be let down. The crust is quite dense and has a cheap vegetable oil smell, lacking the airy and buttery quality you’d expect from a croissant. At $4 for such a small tart, it almost feels comical. I’d much prefer heading to Chinatown for a decent and straightforward po tat with a flaky crust and creamy filling at half the price.
In this review, I'd like to express my admiration for the pasteis de nata, as well as my heartfelt appreciation for Suzette, who went above and beyond to make my delivery order truly special today! The world could certainly use more people like you.
I grew up enjoying Cantonese egg tarts and have tried many in Hong Kong and Macau. These are truly on another level. If you have any appreciation for good food, don't bother going to Chinatown!
The pasteis de nata are incredible. Buy the frozen ones as a gift for someone when you’re invited over for dinner. It’s unique and memorable.
$5 for a coffee and delightful pastry is a great deal.
