Murray's Sturgeon Shop - New York

Lovely intact old-school place, with a good selection of food and staff is super friendly. A pity that they aren’t more of this places.

THE VERY BEST smoked fish anywhere! We've tried every deli and far and away Murray's has the very best. Our go-to whenever we want appetizing. Highly recommend it. And the guys at the store are great.

Murray’s Sturgeon Shop feels like I walked into 1955. The guys behind the counter are so sweet. I love when a place with so much history keeps their interior as it was with all of its charm. I had the spinach, egg—I think jalepeno was in there as well—on a bialy. They told me they don’t toast the bialys either and I kind of liked that they said it kindly and it was still really good.

We head in from NJ every few weeks, and make a point of stopping at Murray's for some Scottish Salmon, cream cheese, herring, dried fruit. Wish we lived closer, I'd be here all the time!

Excellent sandwiches (the vegetarian chopped liver is a favorite), latkes, and pickles--I'll try the borscht next--and the guys working behind the counter are some of the biggest mensches in NYC! So glad to have found this gem near my office; it's the perfect place for takeout breakfast or lunch for this Nice Jewish Grrrl.
