After having had some excellent Ethiopian foods, over the years I was hesitant, but visited my adult children and wanted to take them out for something else. WOW, was not disappointed with the food at all. Restaurant appears a little down and stands, although decorative are quite unpleasant, but it was not important!! All meals come with or on the top of the Teff bread used for scrubbing, loved this. They had us with the first course Vegetarian Plater for two, plentiful, I was already full. My son ordered a meat combo combination of Key Wat, Kitfo, Doro, Gomen Ayib, Salad and Dullet, daughter order another vegetarian combo, I had the goat. Everything was tender and cooked for perfection. Genuine authentic Ethiopian foods and flavors. You can easily have to the spiciest. So delicious, plentiful and the entire meal with $15 Groupon came about $40 with taxes. I'm going back, I don't need a groupon to enjoy this wonderful food, the next time it's gonna have their coffee.
Comfort food would describe our meal. We had the record with a sample of several dishes that was a good choice. To our surprise, usually Ethiopian food is OHNE utensils. A large sourdough flat cake comes with the meal and is called “injera”. The bread is the base layer on the plate, plus additional bread is used to the meal, which is a delicious thick stew. Bring the family as a food is a social experience. The staff at the restaurant was friendly and helpful.
A group of us enjoyed a unique and very tasty meal New Year's Eve. None of us had previously eaten there for 6 people chose 2 meat plates, 2 vegetable plates, the samosas and a fish dish. All the food was very good, but my favorite was the fish. The food is served on a large pancake from tef, an Ethiopian grain. The pancake serves as a dishes. Very recommended.
I don't usually give 5 points to cheap food, but Lalibela is worth it. The food is excellent, both vegetarian and meat-based. Two can share a vegetarian plate! If you are hungry (and omnivorous), add one of the meat dishes and finish happily full (or take some home). Service is casual, but friendly. The room has a beautiful feeling, with decorations and tapisseries on the walls. When you're done, you just pay at the switch.
My wide and I were looking for an Ethiopian meal in New Westminster and Lalibela came up in our search. The place was easy to find on Sixth St. Went in and were seated and given water. My wife asked for a Diet Coke and was given a dirty can with no glass or ice. She cleaned the top of the can off as it was dirty. She was then given a straw. My wife ordered the Gored Gored and I was going to order the lamb.I changed my order with a recommendation from the server and ordered the fish. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and discovered the was no seat on the toilet. Our order was brought to the table but, had to ask to side plates. Other places we have gone we had side plates given but, it does say eaten as a group. The fish was tasty and spicy. The beef was good as well as the injera. I would go back but, set the bar low as far as service goes.
