Roches - New ross

We have been loyal customers of this charming pub/restaurant for over 30 years. The Guinness is always excellent and we always enjoy chatting with the friendly locals by the welcoming fire. We do want to mention that the Strand pub across the street was hosting a large party on this particular Sunday, so Roche's was busier than usual. Despite enjoying our pints of Guinness, we had to wait quite a while for our 3 starters, which should have been served promptly. By the time they arrived, we were halfway through a bottle of Chardonnay. The bruschetta was served on slightly stale bread with a salad mainly consisting of red peppers and carrots. The grilled prawns with nduja sausage ended up being served without the sausage, but included samphire and two pieces of sourdough that tasted like stale pitta bread. The chicken wings were heavily coated in paprika. We did inform the staff about our concerns and received a deduction of €13 from our bill. Robbie, we hope this was just a temporary staff shortage issue and that normal service will resume soon. Perhaps offering some easier-to-prepare tapas starters could help improve efficiency in the future.

We have visited this restaurant previously and had a great experience. This time was no different. The staff were fantastic, very efficient, and the food was delicious. We highly recommend paying a visit.

Best swordfish I have eaten anywhere. And in a friendly local Irish pub. Pretty normal menu. No, actually quite surprising, Thai green curry for example as well as usual Suspects. But the swordfish on the daily specials was exceptional. And as I am gluten free they kindly swapped the couscous out and relaxed with chips. The mango ! and tomato salad went well too. Limited wine list it is a country pub after all . And a lovely village and beach to go with it.

My wife and I recently visited this restaurant and had a very pleasant experience. The staff followed all Covid guidelines and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The menu had a good selection and the prices were reasonable. We ordered the Duncannon Salmon, Chicken Linguini, and Monkfish, all of which were delicious. We would definitely be happy to return in the future.

Since we didn't make a reservation, we weren't surprised when we were offered a table outside. However, we were pleased to find that it was covered and there were wall heaters to keep us comfortable. The portions were generous and the dishes were well-prepared.
