Blackbutt Hotel - NEW LAMBTON

Dropped in for some lunch with my husband. We had the pork belly with sweet mash. Whilst the crackling wasn't crunchy, we still thoroughly enjoyed this meal. They have a large choice of meals to pick from and are very inexpensive for a family to eat lunch or dinner. We will be back again with the kids next time.

The Blackbutt Hotel was my Fathers regular watering hole 40+ years ago and we grew up around the corner. Dad used to come home from his Friday night drinks at 9pm (closing time) and cook some toast and have tinned spaghetti on toast for dinner. We all had burgers, fish and chips earlier from the take away next to the Blackbutt. Wind the clock forward 40 years and I can see why he did this as it would appear that the quality of the food has not changed since, so tinned spaghetti on toast was an absolute treat. That's how I'd rate this 'pub food'. Such a shame given the potential of such a great pub in the area it dominates. With the right food it could be a regular but after what we had, I can't see our family going back there. Nothing fresh, tough steaks, terrible vegetables. I can't really find anything positive to say about it. The owner needs to re think. It doesn't need to be a hatted gastro pub but it can be a pub with good pub food.

Visited Sunday lunch. They had a number of specials all priced at $10 but otherwise meals quite pricey for a pub. However food was plentiful, well presented and very tasty.

We had the special which was 2 $10 meals for $15. We had sirloin steak with chips and salad which was quite nice and great value for money.

Was reluctant to go to the blackbutt for lunch as being a local have always found it a bit hit and miss over the years. What I find surprising is that the menu has relatively remained pretty much the same over the past 10 years+. Anyway, being a good couple years since last eating here, I decided to give it another go. I ordered a works burger as I thought if the food is still average I would have only parted with $15 instead of upwards of $30 for a main like steak etc + it's pretty hard to stuff up a burger yeah.... well, the Burger pattie was thick, solid, dry & tasteless. Served on a Massive overkill damper roll with plenty of dry flour on top, taking the Blackbutt works burger to the next level by adding delectable mouthfuls of raw flour to accompany the already dry tasteless filling. This place needs an overhaul, environment of eatery is dark, dirty, dated and dinghy and food was well below average...1 Star for the chips and free ice water otherwise terrible.
