Tryon Palace Seafood - New Bern

I returned to the store seeking a refund or exchange, but was met with hostility. The owner's daughter, who I believe has taken over the business, aggressively confronted me when I pointed out the poor quality of the salmon. She refused to provide a refund or even look at the fillet I brought back as proof. Her partner, who sold me the fish only 20 minutes earlier, also remained silent instead of verifying the purchase. The situation escalated when she accused me of being racist for seeking the help of her partner, who is Black. I argued that my request was simply about fairness and honesty. Rather than resolving the issue, I was met with further insults and wild accusations. Despite only paying $8 for the salmon, she suggested that I was trying to trick them—which was both absurd and insulting. Even though I had also purchased shrimp and scallops that appeared fine, I still felt compelled to call the police out of frustration. However, I was informed that returning to the store could be considered trespassing, which left me feeling victimized. As a 65-year-old Army veteran and retired nurse, I’ve never been one to take advantage of others. I’ll gladly make the extra journey to B&Js Seafood in James City for quality products and outstanding customer service. It's unfortunate that so many people warned me about this establishment; it has caused a significant disruption to my day and my lunchtime plans.

Great staff who were very friendly and had everything I needed. The freshness of the food really stood out to me.

The only reason I'm giving this place one star is that I couldn't select anything lower. It was not clean at all, and the staff was quite unfriendly. BJ's Seafood is far superior and much fresher.

Attached to the String Ray Cafe only separated by a kitchen. So you can make one stop for fresh seafood, take it home raw or have it cooked. Fresh fish, picked crab, and shrimp were on display. How fortunate New Bern is to have this seafood market with reasonable prices and friendly service. Takes EBT payment.

Super good food and very friendly staff. Plan on bringing some friends there on Tuesday!
