There is perhaps no better way to have dinner with friends than to share fondue. Little Sheep is a great place to enjoy traditional hot pot. Having spent time in Beijing I can attest to the fact that this restaurant comes close to the real thing. The meats are fresh and the broth perfectly seasoned. Service can be a little slow when the restaurant is busy but that is true of any popular place. The process can be a little confusing at first so don't be shy about asking questions. The staff will happily help you get your bearings and set you up with the right stock, a selection of meats and vegetables and dipping sauces. Make the trip, it's worth it.
Once known, as The Little Black Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot, but after moving from their original location on Bank St near the Billings Bridge Mall; they emerged still on top for quality of food, service and choices. Sure the restaurant has evolved from having their food displayed openly and where the patrons would go up to the display cases and choose meats, vegetables, desserts and (non-alcohol) beverages they were like. Now, everything is on a menu with pictures! The diner needs only to write out the number and the quantity of dishes you would like on a form and hand it to a waiter/waitress. What is great, is that any customer could re-order up to 3 times throughout the time that they are there. It is a wonderful experience for families, university students, couples and culturally diverse travellers, who wants to taste the food prepared in a broth of your own design! It is cheaper for lunch time than evenings. You will not regret trying it at least once!
Went for lunch with a friend and the food was terrible. The waitress splashed broth all over the table when refilling the pots and the food was tasteless. Not worth the $45 cost and we only had water to drink. Will not return.
My wife and I were in Ottawa and we had heard of this hot pot restaurant. Always looking to try something new we went to this restaurant. The restaurant is very clean and modern look into on the inside. All tables have different combinations of hit plates for the hot pot(s). So the can accommodate larger groups. We decided to do the half and half hot pot. One side is regular broth while the other is spicy. The spicy is very nice but if you don't like hot spices then stick with the regular broth. We selected a wide variety of dishes to try in our hot pot. The ones we enjoyed the most were the lamb, dumplings, won ton, crab, and pork meatballs. There are a variety of noodle and tofu dishes. The service is very good and quick. We had plenty of food and could not even make it to the third pass. This is a great place if you want to try something a little different, but understand like any fondue restaurant you are there to enjoy your time as you have to cook your food at the table but the tastes are well worth the time. We will be back and next time go in a larger group.
