As a North Carolina native and a certified BBQ judge, I'm pretty sensitive about my pork. Had a hankering for some ribs, so I decided to stop by. 1/2 rack of ribs were reasonably priced along w/ collard greens and potato salad. The ribs were nice and tender. They weren't over cooked and they were smoked pretty good. They camew/o any sauce, but they had a variety of sauces on the table. That's where they lost me. The sauces were just okay. They were either too overwhelming or too weak. The collards were not seasoned, which was disappointing. The potato salad was yellow potato salad and was bland. I guess I expected the food coming out of the kitchen to be flavorful and not have the condiments do all of the work. That's not to say that I won't go back and this is only my opinion. I look forward to trying the pulled pork.
Very enjoyable place for lunch. The seats in the bar are so comfortable. The food was delicious and the service was enjoyable. I had one of the ciders and it was very good.
A friend and I saw the sign as we went to Wilmington, so on the way home we stopped. OMG some of the best if not the best pulled pork and brisket I've ever had.. Great place to eat....
Decided to stop and try this place out. I was pretty excited about it. I worked at a store for years that sold grills. I learned so much about the process of smoking meat and what to expect. (Just an FYI) I ordered the brisket and BBQ with baked beans and fried okra. Hubby ordered the chicken, chicken wings, and sausage with baked beans and the mac-n-cheese. I was not prepared to not have a waitress/wait or. So we fixed our waters and sat down. Food came out quickly, which was nice. I dug in tasted the BBQ, and it was okay. I didn 't really get any smoked flavor, and it was a little tough, but it was good. The brisket was pretty good, but still no smoke flavor. I didn 't even find a smoke ring on the brisket. The brisket was fork tender. Just right. I then tried the baked beans. Not for me.... tastes like chili powder, and it takes over any other flavor in the beans. Didn 't try the wings, but I did try the chicken leg and thigh. Had a smoke ring and the most smoky taste, but it was a little dry. The sausage was the sweet one, but it was the same issue with smoking it. It was not smokey, but it was pretty good. On the fence about the Mac n cheese. It was good, just not as great as I was told by the staff. Ohhhh the sauces.... could not find one of the 7 that I really liked. Settles on the Lexington. I 'm just not sure it was worth $60 bucks with the tip for no wait staff. Wont be back. I would rather go to Smithfield and get BBQ and baked beans. Its over priced for the quality of the food and the self-service, in my opinion.
