One more negative (slight was the waitress was not very up on the wine list BUT she did take the time to go and ask all the appropriate questions which was appreciated. The food: my companion and I had the Chateau Briand for Two. It was just a bit chewy but cooked as we had asked. I thought it lacked the flavor and tenderness I would have expected from this menu item. In addition, it was precut as opposed to being sliced at our table. The atmosphere was extremely cozy as we lucked out and got a table right in front of the fire place very romantic. All was pleasant throughout the evening. My companion and I both want to go back but agreed we could skip the menu items and just have plate after plate of those fabulously yummy corn cakes they were SO good! We couldn't get enough and, had our meal not come, we would have continued gorging ourselves on these constantly replenished, delightfully sinful snacks. Needless to say it was quite some time before our belly's recovered from the overload but they are so great. One last downfall that is important 4 drinks (2 of them basic Old Fashioned $42.00. It's not even that costly in Manhatten (Oy! How much WOULD a Manhatten have cost?
I wrote a review back in 2004, and now I'm sharing another one for 2008. I've returned to Jimmy Kelly's time and time again. Whether it's for business meetings, family celebrations, or a lovely dinner with friends in Nashville, Mike Kelly consistently offers the best steak in town. You simply must try the bleu cheese stuffed filet! On a personal note, today is my 50th birthday, and where am I celebrating with 20 of my family members and friends to reflect on the past and look forward to the future, all while enjoying great steaks, cold drinks, Blackberry cobbler, and Key Lime pie? That's right—Jimmy Kelly’s!
The corn cakes are a nice touch but the service was very slow. The salad was served only a few minutes before the main course was brought out. The ;French ; dressing was more of a cocktail sauce although the Thousand Island dressing was good. The steak was very good.
While there are a couple of minor drawbacks – the bar can be quite noisy, the restrooms are small and located upstairs, and the patio dining area can be chilly during the winter months – I would still choose Jimmy Kelly's over any other steakhouse in Nashville!
Jimmy Kelly's offers a quintessential Old Nashville and Southern dining experience. The food is truly exceptional, especially the delightful small corn cakes served as an appetizer—so good you might consider making a meal out of them. The waitstaff, dressed in white coats, are attentive and genuinely strive to cater to your every need, creating a gracious dining atmosphere. Each day's specials highlight only the finest options, with fresh salmon sourced daily; if it isn't perfect, they won't serve it. The blue-cheese filet is incredibly tender and bursting with flavor. For special occasions like birthdays, they offer a small cake that accommodates the whole party. Housed in an elegantly decorated old home, the restaurant has a charming ambiance. Valet parking is available, though typically unnecessary. A minor drawback is that the restrooms are located on the second floor, which encourages guests to explore the beautiful home. There's also a cozy bar area with a TV usually tuned to local sports games. While it can be a bit pricey, Jimmy Kelly's is our favorite restaurant and well worth the expense.
