The staff was incredibly friendly, and the handcrafted shakes were out of this world. Unfortunately, we were told that we had the last of the Zingers (Phosphates Soda), as the server mentioned they didn’t sell enough to keep it going since they’ve been around since 1939. It’s hard to find a place that not only survives but has THRIVED in Nashville for so long! With the city constantly evolving and boasting a variety of delicious foods from different cultures, Ellison Place has always been a foundational spot. We will definitely return on our next trip—I can’t wait to try more! I loved the walk-up window and the cheerful smiles from the staff!
What a charming spot! It truly feels like a vintage soda shop. The decor was delightful, and the service was top-notch. The staff was remarkably friendly. The menu featured comforting favorites. There was a slight mix-up with my order, but they rectified it right away—with a smile, no less. We enjoyed the fried chicken and pot roast, both of which were delicious. We were too full to indulge in dessert, but we were eager to try the Boozy Shakes—milkshakes with a kick! This place really has something for everyone. They even have a gift shop area!
I ordered the meat and three sides, and I must say the turkey and dressing were absolutely delicious! The beef was tender and very tasty. The potatoes were excellent, though quite small—I'd estimate I got about three tablespoons, with a huge crater in the middle. I wasn't a fan of the brown gravy; it had a strange rancid aftertaste, so I ended up pouring it out. The squash casserole was a pleasant surprise; it wasn’t what I expected and tasted more like a sweet corn pudding with squash mixed in, but it was delicious and came in a portion twice the size of the potatoes. The only downside for me was the cookie—it was too thick and hard. But that’s just my personal preference; I prefer my cookies to be soft and fluffy rather than greasy. My husband had the burger and wasn't impressed; he described it as tasting like frozen cardboard, although he did like the bun. Overall, I enjoyed the food, and the service was friendly, albeit a bit slow due to the high volume of customers. The atmosphere was quite loud and chaotic. However, the retro decor is really cool, and I would consider returning—maybe on a weekday during a less busy time.
This place was absolutely wonderful!!! The food was so delicious. I love the old soda shop decoration and theme. You can cook breakfast, burgers or at home. We will definitely go back!
Excellent, but there are better meat and threes if that’s what you’re after! (Arnold’s) We went with the intention to try some more “soda shop” selections but once we looked at the menu we had to try some meat and three options. They were great! I had Turkey Dressing and my sis had the chicken and dumplings. Both we’re very good. For sides we had turnip greens, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. All fantastic. We topped it off with milkshakes to-go which were also fantastic. I look forward to going back to try a burger or something more traditional to soda shops.
