We were completely forgotten about where we sat, where some of the staff we're hiding in corners on their phones. Not good. So, before 8 p.m. tonight we decided we'd just go to the drive-thru. We drive all the way to the Mustang location, pull up to the ordering screen, and are told, verbatim, welcome to Swadley's we're out of... And the list included everything except the barbecue chicken. On a Saturday night, more than an hour before close, you're out of everything except chicken and side dishes? No more. This is the last time we're going to be disappointed with your restaurant. On a Saturday night, especially when you don't open again til Monday, there's no excuse for running out of literally everything on your menu but chicken. You have plenty of time to have this ready before closing over an hour after we were there. The worst part is that we have friends from out of town, who decided at the last minute they wanted barbecue before they leave Monday. They got to experience this with us. Just makes Oklahoma look bad when your chosen BBQ Place runs all out of meat!
The service was very good. The servers were quick, and effiecent. The food on the other hand was one step short of unedible. The food was not warm, sliced brisket was dry and had no flavor. Fried Okra was so hard you could not taste okra at all. I will not visit another Swadley's BBQ anywere. If I wasn't there for a business lunch I would have sent the food back and left.
The parking situation was chaotic. They direct cars and people like cattle. At one point, I encountered someone going the wrong way, and I had to maneuver into the drive-thru area. I ended up stuck there while another car attempted to merge into my lane, creating a deadlock. Not a pleasant experience. With $3 fountain drinks, uninspiring lunch specials, and a confusing layout, it's safe to say I probably won’t be back. This place might appeal to elderly patrons who enjoy being herded in lines, surrounded by fake antiques, and who have plenty of time to spare.
The service and portion sizes require more attention. If the business aims to grow its market share, it should focus more on the business community and consider increasing the portion sizes, particularly for side dishes.
I had the perfect chicken fried steak paired with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, and a roll, along with a side salad, which made for a filling meal. I also tried the hot links for the first time, and they were delicious—very tender and spicy—along with some tender sliced smoked chicken. I enjoyed the slaw, which had a light dressing that wasn't too thick. The fries and roll complemented the meal nicely, and there were several different BBQ sauces to try.
