I always enjoyed the curry chicken rice; it was delicious, and the service was always prompt. I'm really sad to see it has closed down now.
The prices are slightly on the higher side for what you get, suggesting this is more of an occasional treat for authentic dishes you can't find easily elsewhere. The menu features a delightful array of Japanese comfort food. I wouldn’t recommend ordering sashimi here, as it’s pricey for what you receive; while the quality is decent, it’s not outstanding. Instead, focus on their other offerings, from curry to hot pot, which are definitely worth trying. The staff communicate in Japanese, and I noticed a few diners also conversing in Japanese, which is always a positive sign at a Japanese restaurant. I would recommend this place, with the exception of the sashimi.
I am thoroughly pleased how great this authentic izakaya is on the unassuming Castro St of Mountain View. The food here is awesome. My sake avocado roll is thicker than my thighs. The black miso cod was good; not the best I've had but good in a pinch. The chirashi don w/ miso soup was incredible for the price. Kappo Nami Nami is Castro St's best kept secret. No frills authentic Japanese food. Come here for a quiet yet intimate Japanese culinary experience.
One of the many Japanese restaurants in Downtown Mountain View! I visited with my sister for a quick lunch. The general ambiance of the restaurant was okay, it did feel a bit dark but our server was really kind and food came out quickly. We ordered the Salmon Ikura Don $21) and Unagi Don $22). Both came with a side of salad and miso soup which tasted pretty good. The quality of fish here was great it tasted pretty fresh, and had just the right amount to fill up the both of us. The food didn't quite blow me out of the water, but still was quite good so I'd give it a 3.5 overall.
Stopped by with a friend at ~5:40pm on a Saturday since the restaurant we originally wanted to go to had a 3 hour waitlist. Even though it wasn't prime dinner time, this restaurant had a decent number of tables already seated. Overall, I'd rate it 3.5 stars, but rounding down for inefficiency and subpar customer service. It was very hard to get the waitresses' attention for water, ordering, etc. My friend ordered a sashimi salad and I ordered the Nami Nami Special Bento Karaage, which comes with rice and miso soup on a separate tray. My friend's dish arrived first; mine didn't arrive until she was done eating. She was trying to wait for me, but I told her to go ahead eat first since I don't want her sashimi to wait too long out in the open. Since my bento is supposed to come with miso soup, I'm not sure why they didn't just give me the soup first...they waited until my entire entrée is ready before bringing both trays of my food over. When my bento finally arrived, I was served with tonkatsu instead of karaage. The server took both trays (the entree tray the tray with miso soup and rice on there) away when I mentioned that I was given the wrong protein. Again, not sure why since they could've just left my miso soup there...I already touched the bowl with my hand. I didn't really have to wait for them to bring back my new trays with the karaage so that's good. Now, the review for food. The sashimi pieces were thick, fresh, and generously sized I give it a 5 star, and that's coming from someone who doesn't like raw food much. The kaarage's skin was a bit too tough and not crispy enough, but the chicken pieces was big and juicy I'd give this a 3.5 star. It feels like the karaage has been sitting there for a while, so maybe there was a confusion in the kitchen and they should've brought it out earlier instead of waiting for the tonkatsu tray. The black cod was good, not the best I've had, but it was decent so I'll give that a 4. The side salad it seems like they forgot to add the salad dressing though (I compared the pictures). The California roll's rice is...disappointing. Too dry and it doesn't taste as fresh as the side rice that was served in the bowl. Would I be willing to come back? Sure, but only if all other restaurants on Castro have a 30 min wait, or if a friend specifically requested to eat there. The food is truly not bad and the price is reasonable, but I've had better elsewhere.
