Mountaineer Tap House - Morgantown

These were the best seitan wings I’ve ever had! I went with Frank’s red hot and vegan ranch (yes, they have vegan ranch! and I’ll definitely be back! 10/10!

The seitan wings are amazing, like wow. So crispy and flavorful with the perfect texture. We ordered impossible burgers with high expectations next. The bun was inedible— the bread was so stale that it crumbled when picked up. I ended up ditching the bread and using the burgers lettuce to hold the patty. A real disappointment.

I will be honest. Walking in here I didn’t expect much. I’m not usually a fan of sports bars…. That being said I was FLOORED by how good the food was. And the service was really great too. Ok let’s get into the food. First the sweet potato fries were the best I’ve ever had. Seitan wings were so good we got a second set of 6. We tried the Thai chili first (amazing). Then I asked which ones of the sauces were vegan and she happily went back and asked the chef then came back excited to tell me that they use soy butter in the buffalo sauce so it’s safe for us! And so we ordered round 2. We also got a meat ball sub and a pizza black olives and “meat”. All in all if I could give it 5 stars I could. They have a lot more vegan options than most places like this. Pizza and wing! How can it get any better than that. I love it and I can’t wait to come back for a date night.

In Morgantown WV on a Sunday night, this place sure gave me a solid meal that I didn’t have to worry about. Their vegan options are clearly marked in an entirely separate area of their menu, and all are already completely vegan. Moreover, the staff also warns you that fryer items like fries (not a default in the vegan dishes) have cross contamination, and the fact that they offer this info up-front tells me they take their vegan clientele seriously (even if I personally don’t care). Sadly, their vegan gelato is no more. I got the impossible meatball hoagie, and it was quite well-balanced. They didn’t just take the impossible grounds and run with it, they really intentionally seasoned them and it comes through in the flavor. They also have non-impossible options for folks who don’t consider that company vegan. They’ve also got a solid beer selection, with lots of local beers I haven’t heard of. Not world-changing food or anything, but a great vegan option in a city with few, and that’s easily worth 4 stars to me. My only downside is that there’s not a single seat in the house where you can’t see a TV, and I find that super distracting. Though I get it’s a sports-bar, I like a non-TV section. 5 years ago it was impossible to find decent vegan options in Morgantown. mountaineer has so many of them, and they’re all already vegan without having to hack or modify. Plus vegan mayo and ranch! #Veganuary
