I have a pleasant taste for all kinds of Mexican food. are they surprised that there are various types of Mexican food? si, mi amigos! that means, wake up, yes, my friends there are...read more
Menus and sit on the table. Drink orders were taken over as we observed that several parties arrive. we were then asked to give up our top) so that it could have a top. no problem after we waited about minutes for our commands to be taken, we were informed as any other table that the commands were taken at theke. Now we had to stand up all at once to stand in agreement to place order. there were two employees working at this time, a cook and someone greeting, sitting and drinking orders. it was actually the cook that moved table to inform the patrons that they had to order at the counter. to the happiness our drinks no longer came into the more
With the fall of carmonas cocina mexicana in morgantown opened a new space in the suncrest town center, which has taken over a new Mexican restaurant. (no care, the owners of carmona has opened rosemary’s thyme with the same items in preston county when they search their carmona’s fix. I know a lot of people who give habaneros Mexican grill, and some of the same Tex sex in the city that many know and love. burritos, chimichangas, quesadilla, nachos, fajitas, tacos, tamales and even fish tacos are the most important menu items here. it is not a secret that Mexican eating is not my favorite. I don't love crazy spicy foods, occasionally I'll, like, medium heat. But...read more
Don't you just hate it when a food critic (let's say someone like Candace lately) writes a critique about a restaurant, and starts off by saying, "I don't usually like THIS TYPE of food" but goes on to write the critique anyway, even though they know and we know that they don't know the first thing about that "type" of food. Well, I decided that she didn't give Habanero's Mexican Grill a very fair, or realistic critique... because she is not a real connoisseur of Mexican cuisine. However, I on the other hand, have a fond taste for all types of Mexican food. Are you surprised that there are different types of Mexican food? Si,, mi Amigo's!! ! That means, "Heck, yes, my Friends!" There is Cal-Mex, Sonoran-Mex, Chihuahua-Mex, New Mex-Mex, Tex-Mex, but then there is Baja-Mex, Tlaxcala-Mex (Mexico City), Vera Cruz-Mex, & Cancun-Mex. Some people even include Cuba, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Peru, etc. into that combination of "spicy food" (as Candice calls it) , Then, there is the standard Ameri-Mex (which is a poor, bland imitation of any real Mexican food) which is exactly what most of the Mexican restaurants service around Morgantown. Yuk! True, Carmona's use to be a little better, but it was still a far cry from the actual thing! Candice called Habanero's food "the same Tex-Mex food around!" Let's be clear about this, Candice, "No restaurant in Morgantown, West Virginia, serves real Tex-Mex food. It is Ameri-Mex, plain and simple! I place Habanero's a step above Carmona's in coming closest to real "border " Mexican food. True, they do "tone it down" for the average eastern palate. But, the manager, waiter, and cooks at Habanero's are willing to listen to their customer's... and if you can describe what you prefer (speak the right lingo), they are at least willing to try to prepare the food in a more authentic manner (which Carmona's never did)! Yes, Cafe Rio does kind of have the market over Cal-Mex/Baja-Mex... but we don't have one in Morgantown, do we! Now, let's talk about actual menu items. Chimichanga's are actually an American Mexican item but created by a family of Sonoran Mexicans in Tucson, Arizona that accidentally dropped a burrito into hot grease, thus, deep frying the burrito. So, if you want a chimichanga at Habanero's, just ask for it to be pan fried and they do it. It's not the actual chimichanga, but close enough; especially, since Habanero's actually has shredded meat (not just hamburger, or chopped, or diced meat). Their shredded roast beef is deliciously tasty, and their shredded chicken is moist and flavorful, and their pork is spicy and succulent. Habanero's does try to cater to a variety of Mexican related dishes, not just a particular type of specialty Mexican food, so if you go there and try a different dish each time, then you will see how close to authentic they really come. Look for their shrimp dishes to be more of a combination of Cal-Mex, Baja-Mex, & Tex-Mex, while their chile rellenos are more Sonora-Mex or Chihuahua-Mex. The tamales may have a little to much maize than meat, but the spicy pork is excellent! The chicken dishes are a variety of Tlaxcala-Mex, Vera-Cruz-Mex & New Mex-Mex, so are all very deliciously prepared, being moist (shredded) and blended into wonderfully delectable entrees. The menu offers "especials", "combination dinners", "vegetarian dishes", and a wide selection of mouth-watering desserts; like sopapillas (Mexican fried bread) with honey or ice cream, fried ice cream (ice cream coated with a hardened glaze of coconut/corn flakes in caramel), flan (Mexican custard pie), churros (cinnamon sugar covered deep fried bread sticks), and cheese cake chimichanga (a Mexican American creation). What is so different about Habanero's than the Ameri-Mex restaurants that around Morgantown? It's not only the scrumptious food,... but also (unlike most restaurants in Morgantown) the wonderful staff at Habanero's is so very willing to make each of their customers happy, and to give you memorable experience... time after time!
