My husband and I had been biking about 30 miles and thought we'd stop for lunch in St. Peters Village. The Information Center directed us to The Old School Diner but said they would be closing in 10 minutes. My husband took off to make sure we got in before they stopped serving. The building was easy to find but locating the diner inside was another story. Behind me another couple came in who were also looking for the diner. After following signs up several flights of stairs, I found my husband and the diner. The owner was willing to serve us cold food (had already shut down the grill) but wasn't willing to serve the people that walked in behind me because it was 1 minute past 2! We all left as it was obvious that service was over. We biked on to Morel and the Fry House which was a super experience.
The Blueberry Festival is what drew us to Saint Peter's Bay, but midweek the only events were a pie/ice cream social, and a play that night, long after we would be gone, so pie/ice cream social (130-300pm) it was. Not particularly well marked, but there aren't a lot of choices in SPB, so we found it within minutes. Only a few cars, meaning we would stick out like a sore thumb, and sure enough, we were asked if we had the car with MA plates as soon as we sat down. Having lived in a town of 102 in WI for a few years, this came as absolutely no surprise. One of the best blueberry pies ever. No added sugar; a little lemon juice brought out whatever sweetness was needed. Crust made with good old-fashioned lard; not too thick, not too thin. I am not a huge fan of blueberry ice cream, but it went well with the pie. Surprisingly good coffee came as an added bonus; whole investment was a whopping CAD$3PP!Technically we did not dine at the The Old School Diner, but the proprietress was running and cooked for the pie/ice cream social, and if I am allowed to extrapolate from that experience, the blueberry muffins, scones etc that she was touting as she was serving her delicious blueberry pie would be worth seeking out.
While driving along the Scenic Road, we happened to come across this restaurant and decided to stop for lunch. The parking lot was full due to a private party being held in the main dining room.
We give the food at this restaurant a rating of 3, but the view gets a full 5 stars! We had made reservations and were seated at a fantastic table on the patio with a beautiful view of the water just as the sun began to set.
