Staying in the hotel that Gustave is located in we received a 50% discount voucher for the restaurant so chose to eat here rather than venture out on a wet Saturday evening. The food was excellent although the choice was limited because of the voucher....It was very much more French European in style and quantity than many of the other restaurants we visited on our stay in Canada. The service was very good, attentive but not overly so. However even with the voucher this was one of our most expensive meals in Canada.
We were staying at the hotel and decided to take advantage of the special dinner rate for hotel guests. The choices were limited but the dishes were extremely well executed and resulted in an excellent dinner. The service was outstanding and the manager went out...of her way to make sure we were happy with the food and beverages.
On August 14, I met one of my friends for drinks at Gustave. We decided to stay for dinner. We had the arancini which were delicious; we had the cold meat platter; all the cured meats are prepared in-house and were extremely good; the marinated...calamari were scrumptious. We also tasted their homemade cocktails which were different and very tasty. Wonderful service and staff. All in all great evening
3 stars says average but that doesn’t really do Gustave’s justice it was good AND it was terrible! We eat here because we were staying at the St Martin Hotel and it promised ‘Mediterranean food’. With my wife being vegetarian this was a clincher....In fact there is NOTHING for vegetarians on the menu, which was really rather limited. We nearly walked out but the waiter offered a dish of quinoa and roast vegetables which turned out to be delicious, as was the beef pave. Well done the chef but how on earth can Gustaves claim to be ‘Mediterranean’ with such a limited offering? This is what veggies used to have to put up with 20 years ago but there’s no excuse for this today. The decor was nice and the staff were very pleasant but the background music (a Star Wars soundtrack? was intrusive in volume and style. No wonder the place was quiet the music was not a reason to come in or stay long. Overall, expensive and slightly disappointing,
