Trou de Beignes - Montréal

If you are in Montreal and have a sweet tooth, give this place a try. I bought 1/2 dozen (we were a group of five) and brought them back to our hotel. These were amazing donuts. My only regret is that I did not buy an extra dozen to bring home from my trip. I had the maple cream and pecan donut - delicious. I didn't get to try the others but everyone in our group said they were great.

Lemonade Bourbon donut and Coconut donut. Fluffy yeast raised were perfectly tender and not at all greasy. Very well defined flavours tastes exactly as advertised. Displayed like jewelry under glass gave us the impression ours would be made to order. Nope. These are good but not earth shattering. And at 2.75$ per donut for a "standard" it will be often a one off purchase at best.

I've found a perfect donut.Does your heart skip a beat when you see a new donut shop? I write this only for those as crazy about donuts as me. Everyone has their preferences but damn if this place doesn't make the best donuts I've ever tasted. Yes - per my screen name - malasadas will always have a special place in my heart. Those warm soft pillows of heaven, in a bite, hold all that is good in the world. If you don't like malasadas, you clearly also hate puppies and ice cream - and you should stop reading this review. Per the title of the review, I'm also a donut snob. If you think there is no such thing as a bad donut, this review is also not for you. I've been fooled too many times, blinded by my love of donuts - into buying one in a display of a coffee kiosk that clearly was abused but I thought just had fallen on hard times. Nope. Sadly, I've done that more than once and cursed myself for it - but... did I tell you... I love donuts. Walking into TdB I was a bit concerned. It was totally empty and the owls/mural motif really threw me off. It was ~3pm so it seems, though, I just caught them in between rushes. There are two sizes of donuts, a small (scout) and a regular. I went with the regular for all my selections as I find mini donuts sometimes suffer from being overcooked and/or otherwise are different in consistency from their larger brethren, They were also just making new batches, so I got a variety of flavors -- some warm, some not. The classic (warm): The pinnacle of what a yeast raised donut should be. Golden but not dry on the outside (if you've eaten a dunkin donut in the US, you know what dry on the outside is like). Inside is soft, textured, slightly chewy, and tastes like... a donut. It has body (compare to a Krispy Kreme donut that you can smoosh into a small ball) - but gives. The balance is spot on between the sugar/cinnamon outside and dough. I let one cool to see if the experience is different. Of course it is, but still damn good. The balance, I think, is key. Not just in the sugar/dough ratio, but chewiness to give, texture to flavor. If you love donuts, you don't have a choice my friend - you have to go and try it. You're welcome.Other flavors: We tried a number of the other flavors they had available. One note is that the chocolate, tastes like chocolate. It's sad to say that some chocolate donuts don't taste like chocolate (yes, I'm not proud of all donuts I've eaten). All the donuts we tried though, were balanced. I was scared of the s'more donut - but as my daughter ate all the marshmallow separately (she does not like donuts... I'm thinking of trading her in for another model) -- the donut was otherwise very good. Though I'm a purist -- that earl grey donut -- I'm still thinking about it. I can't believe this place only has one review (although correctly a 5 star) as of my writing. It deserves many more and to do well. A shop that cares about what it does and the products it makes. Sometimes, no matter the love, it doesn't work out. This time, you taste it.

Hands down, THE BEST donuts in Montreal! Coming from LA, I've had my fair share of gourmet donuts, but Trou de Beigne takes the cake.
