Chez di Vito is probably one of the very, very few genuinely authentic central Italian restaurants that I have beeen to outside of Italy. These are good people, dedicated to "Autentico Italliano" food, "Home cooked" and delicious. No salty, sugary gloop here. The chef and staff really care that they produce what an Italian would normally expect from mama at home. They will make anything that you want (within reason) as long as it is "Autentico" and we were given a generous appetiser and another of fruit at the end. Chez di Vito is a BYOG, I bought a bottle of Chateau Neuf du Pape, well matched to the food. My pasta was like silk, I have not have it as good since I was at the famous "Cumpar' Cosimo" in Ravello on the Amalfi coast. This was our first time and it will not be our last, we went with another couple on the advice of several more friends who raved about it and weall agreed that the other posts are right. There you have it, good unpretentious food at excellent prices from nice people, so go and see for yourself.
I discovered this restaurant through my mother in law. Since then, I have been going back regularly. I am very picky with tomato sauce since I was always used to home made...Vito's sauce taste like my grandmother's. Absolutely delicious. Everything is so tasty and fresh. Anything you order will taste amazing. The portions are quite generous and Vito and his wife are the nicest most genuine people I have ever met. This restaurant is classic. A must try!!!
We wee looking for a nice place to take my daughter for dinner. She wanted us to try something different from downtown or le plateau so she checked trip advisor on her phone in the mile end and outremont areas. She spotted Di Vito's and said "how about there?!". So off we went. Well, I should take her to buy me lottery tickets!! What a marvelous restaurant! Run by an Italian husband and wife team who are so personable and attentive and make the sauce right there from scratch, along with everything else.... soooo good. Very cute interior and very comfortable. Chatted with other guests here and there while others were obviously having a romantic evening so left alone! We started with bruschetta and got 3 ginormous pieces of home made bread loaded with chopped tomatoes and seasonings sitting on a salad that all three of us shared. OMG, never had bruschetta quite like that! For dinner - I had the veal parmesan - it was 5 star restaurant good!! My wife had the stuffed manicotti- sooo good she said she savored every bite! My daughter had the italian sausage and gnocci and once again totally enjoyed. Although large portions meant lunch for tomorrow, we were delighted to contemplate enjoying this delicious food again!! We were stuffed, but when presented with the dessert tray were unable to turn away from a delicous fresh zeppoli and a cannoli! So good! The prices are extremely reasonable, even with the large tip I happily left for the pleasure! Definitely recommend this gem of a restaurant on the edge of Mile End!!!
Stopped in for an early supper with friends at this cozy neighbourhood Italian spot on a cold night in February, and was absolutely delighted by the experience! The husband and wife (I assume?) duo behind the counter and at the stove are charming, and so is the space itself. The food arrived promptly and was unfailingly delicious. It began with an amazing plate of fresh bruschetta, piled high with perfectly spiced tomatoes and on a bed of lettuce, kalamata olives, red onions and sweet peppers. Then the mains: from the veal parmigiana to the gnocchi with Italian sausage to the porcini-stuffed fresh pasta, everything was perfect! Portions are satisfying, food is hot, and washing it down with wine you've brought yourself makes it extra tasty. Di Vito does not disappoint!
