And we were glad to find these options here. First we have Sauteed beef with...lemongrass and salad (Boeuf saute a la citronnelle et salade). It came with vermicelli and other greens. The beef was cooked very nicely the seasoning is just right and the meat is tender. We also share a Combo crevette roule sur canne a sucre, boeuf et por roules avec feuille de betel porc sur stick de bamboo (combo of grilled shrimp paste on a sugar cane, grilled beef paste and pork on bamboo stick). I love the charred aroma on the grilled meats. My friend also enjoyed them tremendously.
Food is average, not that great, and the staff is absolutely incompetent and need training on better communication and stress management. We were rushed, wrong food delivered, and expected to give tip insistently at the end in a rude manner! If you are looking for...good Vietnamese food in Montreal, there are plenty of other places with better food and service. Don't even think of going to pho an nam!
We recently stopped in on New Year's Eve before heading out to celebrate the New Year. The restaurant wasn't very busy and we were seated right away. We didn't know ahead of time, but the place is BYOB (we would have brought wine Overall the...food was very good, particularly the spring rolls, beef teriyaki, and the pad thai was excellent as well. Service was just ok, we never had our water glasses refilled once, and it took a while to get the check once we were done eating, but again, very good food overall, and we would definitely consider checking it out again.
Pho An-Nam, The Vietnamese restaurant at St Catherine Street East, near Papineau. It's seating and tables are well laid out, we were there in the early evening and the restaurant was actually very quiet, so while waiting to order had a chance to look...at the layout of the restaurant, soft ceiling lights, soft colors for the walls, very enjoyable. The staff are welcoming and can explain all the dishes, what a treat! They have at least three sizes of Pho soup and brother! Even though I ordered a Medium sized bowl, it was large enough to be considered a meal, but I did not know that and ordered a main course which later on I was going to have trouble finishing, but I always felt you must clean your plate or you have lost face! Others at the table ordered two bowls of Tom Yum soup, the Tonkinese soup with beef. The guests ordered the salmon which they raved about during the whole meal, it was kind of gushy so I tried tuning out but having been sitting next to the aquarium, I had this filter buzz on one side and the diners moaning about their food.. So I decided that when they finally stopped groaning about how good it was I said: was it really good ? and they admitted there dishes were absolutely delicious but quite filling. I knew how they felts since the portions are very generous. My chicken dish arrived and was so hot, the plate was steaming and sizzling for about five minutes! A giant plus in these days of expensively marked up wines is that this restaurant is a “bring your own” wine, but we had decided to concentrate of the taste experience and ordered Jasmine tea with the meal. The décor and the service were excellent, we sat near the large aquarium, which gave us a great view on the staff activity around the restaurant. It’s a small gem of a restaurant. Well worth the trek to get out from the downtown core, so I give it a well worth your time and your money wink.
Although this place have Pho in it's name, it really is not a good place to eat a pho. First of all it's over priced for its quality and not even close to be authentic. To begin, pho shouldn't have broccoli or any other vegetables...in it besides herbs and bean sprouts which we didn't receive. The broth tasted like water with a hint of beef. The service was ok and the decor......no comments! I would go to Chinatown next time. They're plenty of good pho restaurants in Montreal, don't waste your money here.
